Non-plastic monotubs?

Has anyone ever tried to make a mono from something besides a plastic tub? After many years I had some problems with contams, and I think it may be partially because of using the same old tubs that had been contaminated and sometimes neglected. It's well-known that scratches in plastic can harbor mold and bacteria (endo)spores.
My idea was to use a glass cutter on a terrarium to build basically the same design, except it wouldn't be as easily scratched. Obviously this wouldn't be the cheapest way in the short term, and they'd be a lot heavier. But do you think it could work? I can't see why not.

Pretty sure I saw a glass FC that looked legit enough recently... can't remember exactly what the hole configuration was. Was either a SGFC or mono.

Tahoe did a cardboard box with a trash bag in it for the subs liner/cardboard protection.

Not like that at all. That requires a separate FC. It's a completely different method than what I'm wanting.

That would have the same problem of harboring contams. The high RH could cause problems after many uses. Box sagging, etc. Even lining it, moisture would build up between the liner and box. The same reason we don't line grow rooms with plastic.
I'm sure it could work once, but I don't want to have to buy stuff over and over.

Good question.
Most tubs are pp5, I always wish I had a big ass PC they could fit in, like an AA 991 or something lol... I suppose you could put them in a bulk steam pasteurizer 1 or 2 at a time
If you could somehow pasteurize em that should be plenty

I have wondered about this too. Looking at them as disposable sucks.
But, doesn't this go against the common advice here that fruiting is not about aseptic conditions? That clean and healthy spawn will outrun competitors?
However...
Maybe do a few rounds of acidified bleach. It is a very potent disinfectant.
Or, what about buying iodine based cleaner like they use in brewing, fill a bottom tub (without AE holes) and let your monotub soak in it? This would get most of the tub and give prolonged exposure.
I have no idea how penetrating fluids would be into such crevices though...
How about UV and clear plastic tubs?

Also, if you are gonna try something else, metal may not be the best choice. It can also be porous depending on the type and quality of metal.
Worse than that, if the container is not cast out of a single pour, it will probably have crevices where the metal is folded together that are cavernous compared to the little scratches in your plastic.
Glass is probably the best bet but it can be scratched too, it is just much harder. Beyond that, glass is normally bonded together with sealants that create the same type of problem--cavernous places for contams to hide.
That is one of the reasons for all the mold resistant sealants but this is far from 100%. I used a mold resistant sealant in my shower and it wasn't more than 2 months before mold grew all in and around it.
