Hey guys im back to growing the mushrooms, its been awhile since i had any cubes fruiting but going thru some personal stuff so im sticking to edibles for some time now. This being my first time doing edibles is it any different from cubes? Im growing king oysters that i recieved from a friend on here. Now from what ive read that is a wood lover mushroom. With that being said what source of wood can i use? Could i just go outside cut up a few boards and collect the saw dust or does it need to be wood pallets? And do those jisy need to be pasterized correct? Thanks guys hope to see you guys around here in edibles and have a grow log soon. Thanks again -kushroom

The standard for kings is hardwood sawdust/woodchips supplemented at 20%, though a lot of us on here have been working with different subs for them. It's going to be world of difference than working with cubes though, for instance with a supplemented substrate it needs to be sterilized and inoculated in a sterile procedure and the standard fruiting container for kings are grow bags and fruited from the top. Pinning initiation is brought from the bags getting a week of cold conditions, 50-60 degrees and then opened up. You can do different things with kings, this is just the standard procedure and substrate, they do not have very high BE on straw. Check out the link in my sig about the kings, and you can get a picture of what to expect with them.
Oh I forgot to mention you can usually obtain hardwood sawdust in the form of hardwood fuel pellets for pellet stoves or bbq's from places like tractor supply and such.
