Ok I've only just begun research into agar, that makes sense. Stones and stuck agar wedges make sense too but no parameters of inoculation or if stone producing sp. was used. I was just assuming it wasn't agar because none of the other pics show the same spot, big or small. Assume bad, fact good. <---- insert cave man voice while reading.

That's a huge piece of agar

Most likely from tiger drop method where you pop n drop the whole plate of agar from a pasty plate into a jar of grain

:what: Sounds intense. Why would you drop the whole plate?

Sometimes you just want a jar to colonize faster so drop the whole plate inside.
If you have 50 plates it wont matter if you use the whole plate or not.

If you have clean myc on agar, I have found it easier/faster to Tiger drop the dish then grain to grain out the original jar, but Im not sure how long the culture will maintain its virility as I've just started doing this.

Good idea here, Bodhi!

tiger drop is so you dont have to cut your dish at all, just squeeze and drop.
if you want faster colonization you cut the dish into several smaller pieces and drop them all in the jar.

Thats fucking awesome. So is a fully colonized agar plate resistant to contam and bactiriea? Like a fully colonized BRF cake?

No, agar is used as an inoculant so it has to stay clean and sterile.
Cakes are resistant after birthing yes but you don't use them to inoculate something.

eh.. you dont want mold spores on your colonized agar plates, the grains you put said wedge on wont like the contams.

cutting your agar dish is a contam vector, dirty scalpel, poor technique etc, tigerdropping eliminates that vector.

Right so its not tigerdropping unless we chop it up. This is great!
