I am by no means against abortion, I just don't think that your sleeping around is your employer's business.  We aren't talking about teenage girls here, we are talking about adults with wages. I'm kind of still waiting for someone to explain how the people who don't want/can't use contraceptives aren't drawing the short end of the straw in this kind of scenario.

God bless 'Muricans' notions... I guess. But yeah, that's enough from me. What do I know? I live in a desert.

I'm not talking about that, I don't really have any thoughts on that.  Birth control is like 20 bucks a month for most ladies so.... yeah.

.......... So? I can't see why that's a problem. :dealwithwhat:

You go to work, you get paid, you buy whatever the fuck you want. I can't see how anyone would go to an interview and be like, "yeah, that pay is badass... but.... Will you pay for birth control or pay to kill my unborn child if I ever get pregnant? No? GTFO then, keep the job and shove your money where the sun don't shine". How does that work? What about the people who don't want contraceptives in their life? Wouldn't they be missing out on something that costs money which they have no interest in? What about the older people or the men working in there, what do they do with birth control? Wouldn't it be better for everyone working for said company to get an "x" increase in wage, then what they do with that money is up to them and no one is missing out on anything.

My point is, the point in going to work is for money, contraceptives being a dealbreaker is retarted IMO. If anything, I think that an offer of free contraceptives is a breach of privacy. It's not your employer's business what you do in your free time, he pays you cash to do whatever it is you want to do. Wouldn't you rather have a great pay and no contraceptives rather than a minimum wage and a pill?

Plus, I can't begin to comprehend how a "pro-life" outlook can ever be frowned upon.

Anyway..... AGAR!

I swear this is the last comment I'll make- it can't be considered pro life if they only care about birth, and not clothing, feeding, housing, and providing for healthcare after the child is born.

Health insurance should cover all forms of health, reproductive included. These same plans that deny birth control for women cover viagra for men.

Women should have the right to choose when to have a child (and if birth control were covered there would be less abortion) and employers do not have the right to force their "religious" views on their employees.

The other really shitty thing about Eden agar is that it's like 13 bucks for a 2 ounce bag.  I really care about what the money I use to pay for products actually supports, and I'm not going to pay straight up gouged prices for my agar to a company that practices religious fundamentalism. Also, those agar flakes dissolve worse than powder, and a lot of it ends up glued to the bottom of your pot. If you want really good, inexpensive, health food store agar, go with NOW brand. That's all I use and it's awesome. When dissolved in cold water it leaves no deposit and thickens up really nicely.

I found the Eden brand at my first stop, it was 9.99 for the bag which yeah seemed high, but I didnt know what my other options were so I bought one.... I only found the other afterwards at an asian market and it was 1.59 for the pouch.  So I'll use the Eden since I already bought it and then stick to the packets afterwards.

Anyways, I went to the dollar store and found some little pp5 containers 4 for a buck, wish they were a little wider and shorter, but they look ok.... but what I thought was funny is someone on here just posted about the little condiment cups most restraunts use but those are pp1, well at the dollar store I also found some condiment cups that are a little deeper than the common ones, but these were stamped pp5 and came 10 in a pack so I grabbed a couple to play with and see.

so there's no such thing as PP5 its PP and it's recycling code is 5

PP1 doesn't exist at all
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) has the recycling code 1 so I guess we would say PET1 here

just like PS6 is Polystyrene(PS) and it's code is 6

PP5 isn't a thing though, it's Polypropylene and inside that little triangle recycling thing it's got the #5

Might have some trouble getting business round these parts

But yeah, I guess when we say "pp5" it's more to give a context rather than anything else. I got so used to writing pp5 that I went to my lab supply place once and I asked him if his test tube rack was pp5, he gave me that look like I'm retarded. Can't say I blame him.

I was about to say... BUT I JUST LOOKED!  So I double checked and yeah I misread it, the solo cup is PETE1.

And yes I know technically its just the recycling code for PP, etc...

But this community has adopted the term pp5 for any pressure cooker safe containers.... so don't think of it as mislabeling it, just think of pp5 as a nick name!

Also i'm available for parties also.... like seriously, invite me... it's so lonely here, I'll pay you even to attend..... no really, I'll even just stay in the back being quiet!

I'm a pedantic asshole so I either call it polypropylene, or the actual name of the container (mini round, ziploc screw top, etc)

I feel like a mad scientist with these neon slime plates!

Got so excited with the outcome of my new neon food colouring that I forgot to add a drop of honey to the mixture this time.

Thank god for the search bar.

That's funny as hell.  Hopefully you have some nutrients in that agar too!

I like the neon color though

Yes of course. I wouldnt expect anything to grow on agar alone  I usually mix the agar powder and potato flakes in a dish dry before adding to the water.
Dont ask me why, I just do haha

I haven't tried any food coloring yet, but I should.  I've just been using some premix mea but I live in a decent city where supplies are readily available and should start making my own. I'm going through that shit quick.

I've been microwaving my water before I mix it with the agar, works great!  Helps the powder dissolve better

Nice! I havent tried without colouring yet but I've found if I let a plate sit out too long the myc digests the food colouring and the plate is colourless again.
Now I can see why the colouring comes in handy when identifying contams

I've used food coloring and not used food coloring. The food coloring, especially blue or red, makes it easier to spot bacteria for sure, and I usually use blue food coloring as a matter of course, but I haven't really had any trouble with bacteria lately, and I lost my food coloring when I moved, and I never bought more but I needed to make a bunch of plates so...

Honestly I like the food coloring but it's all just personal preference.

Yeah, it's not necessary. But it does help spot problems too.

Clear can be just as beneficial, if you know what you're looking for. I feel like the colored agar helps a lot when starting out. That's for sure. It helps you see when you have something you don't want chillin' on the plate.

Now that I've seen enough contams, color or not is no big deal. But the food coloring really helped my eye. Also, I've heard food coloring can be detrimental to certain species. It seems fine for cubes, and I need to look more into it, as it's just hearsay really. But I did find it interesting when I read that.

The food coloring has made it harder to spot competitor mold mycelium, especially if it's mixed in with the culture, but when I was starting out with agar, bacteria was the one thing that I had the most trouble with and the food coloring really helped with that.
