i'd say take a leaf or two if you must, but best to let it finish blooming. Then you could harvest, and have lots of seeds to plant in the future.

yes definitely Datura. Stramonium or Metel. I can't tell from the picture if the stem is black/purple possible Datura Metel. I'm no expert either... anyway best way to propagate is to harvest a seed pod.

I took a few cutting's from one. one of the clones seems to be taking root the other didn't. Also I took a green seed pod after about two weeks it kinda turned brown split open with tons of seed! Reminds me I should go back for a mature seed pod or two.
Nice find

Where did you find it? Also, since a lot of people with datura knowledge seem to be here, does anybody know why my month old datura seedlings inexplicably died suddenly?

Can you explain more about your plant, such as what type of growing conditions you had it in, how often were you watering/feeding it, etc.

Datura is annual, it dies by the end of a season. There's no reason to try to take cuttings from Datura, it doesn't work this way.
You grow your own plants from seeds.
The plant shown above looks like Datura stramonium, the jagged leaves and small flowers are characteristic.

Actually you can take cuttings from stamonium, which is what he has pictured I have done it before.
Some Datura's are perennials too,and the ones that aren't can be treated as such if you bring them indoors for the winter,or take cuttings.

Very beautiful specimens you guys have! Wow i didnt know they could get such flowers.
I have no intention of ingesting this as of now. My main intention is to try and bring it back to my garden. In going to try qnd wait and let it seed to get as many as i can to plant inside this winter. I may try a very threshold dose if i find a good recipe. Thanks for all the feedback I am very surprised to have found this in northern us on a sidewalk corner of all places! Perhaps someones plant hmmmm.

your best bet would be to wait for a seed pod to mature. I never taken a cutting but i guess you could try , maybe use some rooting hormone... if not and if you must have Datura I guess I can always send you some seeds from my Double purple Datura

I have one that is in the second year as well.
Intrestingly the plant that survived winter indoors didn't produce any flowers this season. It grew a little bigger with some new leaves, but no flower came up. I noticed some very little shoots that looked like very young flowers, but they dried out within (didn't survive) a day at half an inch size.
Didn't know that one can take cuttings from Datura, that's great!

Its outdoors, I am in Socal and that one puts out multiple flowers constantly, I did try and root a branch to a different Datura a friend gave me, with no luck.

Datura stramonium seedlings grown on a heat mat, soil surface temp about 80 degrees. Grown in plastic pots with plastic cups over them. Never misted and oly watered when I planted the seeds. The environment stayed very moist. Was below a south window. They just started wilting and over a couple of days they all shriveled. When they started dying they were just 2-inch stalks, leaves still in the seed at the top.

mine sprouted very easy in gardening soil. They were put in the sun and kept moist. that's all. once a seedling I gave mine plenty of water as young plants.
