Hi all, few noob questions and advice please!
I have been scoping my local area this summer, and have found a large field that is grazed by cows and horses, it is pretty much deserted, I've never seen anybody else over there.
I had a walk over there today and it looks pretty good, although the grass is quite long, there are a few patches of shorter grass.
My main question is, although this location looks ideal, what are the chances of libs actually growing there? How common are they nationally? Are we talking everywhere like stinging nettles, or quite abundant like fly agaric, but you really need to be lucky and find a good spot?
Also I'm in the South East, so may not be quite cold enough for them here yet. Will have another look tomorrow as temps dropping and rain all night. Is there anywhere particular I should focus? In shade near trees? Shorter grass or longer grass? The field I have found isn't on any sort of slope, and not at any altitude, will that matter?
Sorry it's a bit of a long one, hope somebody can help.
Many thanks

Hi guys I'm going out for a day of liberty cap hunting tomorrow for the first time this year and I've only ever been a few times before when I was about 12 years old with my dad and once last year I'm now 24 but I've got vivid memories of my dad showing me which ones to pick.
I found around 150 last year at a local spot and had my first experience with the liberty cap. and they blew me away!
They showed me every thing that I needed to change in my life and the relationships that I needed to build with my family and friends. and also gave me some of the funniest moments with my dad whilst we was out on the lash tripping... that is a night I'll always remember!
Anyway....
Where I live is as latitude 52 and sea level so I don't think it's cold enough of damp enough for me to find any locally so I'm gonna have to get on my bicycle and bike about 14-16 miles to get to any good hilly spots and this is about 33 meters, 110 feet above sea according to this map tool thingy.
Do any of you lot think I'm likely to find any this far south this early on in the season? I hope so If not it's gonna be a long bike ride at like 30 miles round trip. But at least i'll get to smoke some of my own outdoor homegrown weed. It's an Auto Mazar from Dutch Passion grow in my back garden using john innes no.02 and some ashes from a fire for nitrogen. No Feeds, Completely Organic.

Wish me luck guys and I'll post my findings if any, cheers!

These were found on a cow pasture field, 20m above sea level, near a large river, NE Scotland.

They were found together, one had dried, the smaller one was fresh. Definite nipple on the smaller one with the edge of the gills rolled in and a thick flexible stalk.
The only thing I wasn't sure about was the colour of the gills, they didn't seem dark enough, but now the spores have dropped a bit they've turned a bit darker.
It's been 20 years since picking my last ones. They've been on my mind these last couple of years calling my name, lol.
The soils still a bit dry here despite some rain at the end of last week.
Any tips for the best way of storing them? Perhaps dry them and then air seal them should keep them good for about a year?
I remember my mate telling me that the best way was to pressure cook them, for a very mild simmer, and then freeze the liquid. Reckon it was to do with not wanting to get caught if there was a search And the fact it's a bit easier on the stomach drinking it.
Good luck guys, bon voyage!

Juliaset (as in mandlebrot set?), can use a food dehydrator , dries them very, very well with no loss of potency ,not to a crisp either but like an aluminum like, gold. , then in they go in a mason jar, air tight... be good for years, ucan go as far as to freeze them within that jar.
any good locations.... ? Norfolk, well you know the habitat they like right? first clue
second clue - know the habitat , get on ur bike or in your car...
sorted.

Well mushroom geeks. I'm finding libs at 50m now.
Lovely afternoon out <3 washing them down with a tangerine or a carton of orange juice is the way to go. I've had some challenging trips lately. Today was one of those open hearted everything's beautiful ones.

Im wondering what deadly looky likeys have the cap shape and dark gills? I think I'm throwing way more in the garden than I need to. Cus they look a bit odd.

Also, in the name of knowing your enemy I brought home some inactive, unknown and deadly neighbours for spore printing.

Hi All,
Been picking libs for a fair few years now down south wales area and just moved up north to Chesterfield in the peak district, and from the scenery I'm sure there must be at least some good spots around!
Took a soggy walk up on the moorside yesterday in the wet and found many mushrooms, but the closest i could find to Libbie's were these:

However the cap colour doesn't sit right with me and the bottom of the gills are much lighter than I'm used to, usually expect then to get darker towards the bottom, and also the cap is a more uniform round shape, maybe because they are young?
Browsing Google images I do see some looking like this so maybe I'm just used to my usual breed?
What do you guys think?
First post on this forum so don't let me down :P
Happy Hunting!
