Oysters?
    #23660888 - 09/20/16 07:32 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Hello,
It's been awhile, but I asked for an ID on these mushies several years ago... the consensus was oyster.
Well, I found a lot this year. I dehydrated them only to discover that after eating a bunch my brother and I were farting unusually poisonous gas.  After learning about the 'angel wing' mushroom, I'm afraid to eat or serve them to anyone else.

They are quite common, but seasonal (late summer, fall) here in SW Ontario.  I've found them on living and dead hardwoods in forests.  White spore print.  Pleasant smell.  They're quite delicate, not as robust and rubbery as the ones I find in the grocery store.

It is hard to see if the caps are flaring tongues that wrap around or umbilicate disks with eccentric stems (the foreground ones do appear to be) but that is the difference.

Same
They are cracked though so a little past their prime but still fine to eat...maybe a few extra bugs included to up the protein levels

I've seen both forms (flared tongues, and umbellate disks) in the same population.  I'll have to pay closer attention. Thanks for the replies.
