I think all of you should check out John Taylor Gatto, guys got some good stuff to say about public school systems, and has been involved with them first hand.

lol those were all undergrads...
I disagree that educated people are stupid, especially when compared to the uneducated. However I do think sheltered youths who go straight from high-school to a liberal arts degree and do no reading outside of assigned material (usually not even that) don't really qualify as 'educated'

Very true, and I bet you anything a significant portion of them were freshmen...

I mean, some high school curriculums like some Texas schools don't even teach evolution, and don't even teach accurate history. They are either studying from books that are outdated by years, or contain information that is inaccurate.

Yet these same kids are still able to continue on into college, despite the fact that they have no understanding of science or history.

I don't know much about american schools (except I hear them constantly shat on so I assume they aren't great) but I actually had a pretty good experience of public schools up here in BC, don't know how true it is of the nation generally but we learned a pretty decent amount of world history philosophy etc that from these kinds of videos, it seems a lot of american kids don't get to study

not that the system is perfect, I could have done with a much more rigorous and challenging curriculum but it seemed well suited to the average student, like that suffragette thing would not have fooled anyone I went to school with except the real bottom of the barrel types

What really pisses me off are those for-profit schools like ITT Tech. They aren't even regionally accredited, which means they aren't even accepted at other universities, and a lot of employers don't accept the credit. A lot of people who "graduate" from these schools are only able to find entry-level positions later on.

Even when I was 16 and I first saw these technical schools start to pop up I knew they were bullshit right off the bat. I guess never having seen any serious college in a commercial kind of set alarm bells off for me, Im surprised people actually shell out for it.

My education was good, my high school actually had a harder curriculum than college, but I went to a prep school. Over a quarter of the kids who attended that school were legacy applicants who went to Ivy League universities, and the rest still attended top or second tier universities like UCLA, Cal Berkeley, MIT, USC, Notre Dame, etc. I don't think there was a single student who didn't go to college after.

Last I heard it's WAYYY more expensive to go to that school now. Tuition rates practically quadrupled, and now it's $30,000 a year just to attend that high school. Now it has the reputation as some prestigious prep academy that guarantees college admission, and parents are paying top dollar for their kids to attend, to ensure better rates of prestigious college entry.

It's funny, I heard people often complaining about how hard college was, and I was like, errr.... what high school did you go to?!

Apparently a high school degree in a country like Germany or Sweden is the equivalent of a college degree in America, as far as academic material goes. I completely believe it.

To be fair, I'm sure that anybody who got the answer correctly was edited out. Who knows how many people they interviewed before they got those answers, they could have interviewed hundreds of people before finding somebody who had no fucking clue what a suffragette was.

The video would have been a lot more accurate had they included all the people who were interviewed, or if they stated how many people were interviewed, and exactly how many people answered correctly or incorrectly. Because if it's only 2% of the population giving these answers, it's nothing to be alarmed about.

Have you ever watched all those "dumb American" videos of Americans being interviewed and getting basic questions wrong (like who the Vice President is, or what Islam is, or they ask them to point to Australia on a map), and they always get it wrong in the videos.

These videos are painful to watch, but it's possible they interviewed thousands of people and happened to stumble upon the few people who dropped out of high school, or are literally mentally disabled or something:

Oh damn, I would be so pissed if I was one of those students that put all that money in and didn't get a degree or certificate. And those credits can't be transferred to another school since ITT isn't regionally accredited!!! Which means you wasted all that money for NOTHING! That sucks! I hope those people get compensated or reimbursed somehow. They should sue.

My parents pushed me to college too, even though I'm not very bright, academically speaking.
So I dropped out, and years later, on my own dime, I went to trade school. I fitted in much better and now have a degree in IT.

All I need now is a job and I'm set.

As for educated people being stupid.. dude, all people are stupid. We're not THAT intelligent.

collage is too expensive or takes up too much time

it caters to 18-20 year olds

just about all of my time at uni could have been spent in front of a computer, which is kind of why I fuck up a lot honestly because its' like being in two different classes if they don't hand shit out

I have to keep reminding myself of the different circumstances in the states, when discussing university, because honestly if I lived in america I wouldn't have gone to university whereas around here its kind of just a given, virtually everyone goes unless they're going straight into a particular trade or are a dumbass

costs way too much south of here, especially for anything that doesn't get you a job honestly scares me just thinking about it :uhoh: lucked out

Isn't Canadian tuition like $5K a year? My university was actually cheaper than that.

For you, it'd be more expensive, because you'd be paying what's called "out of state" tuition. People who are from different states or different countries pay close to $20,000 to $50,000 a year to attend university here.

Depends on the province, Quebec is about the cheapest I think. Similar rules there where you have to have been a resident there for a couple years to get the cheap tuition.

Here in Ontario it's about $6k for most programs, and $13k for stuff like management, engineering, computer science (which I'm doing), etc. I'm doing part-time though so I'm billed per course. For international students I think it's something like $40k for a typical program.

Haha, sorry guys. I was more or less just asking a rhetorical question and shaking my head at these people. I've just known so many of the "I have x degree, therefor I'm smarter than you by default!" types of people. Those people are not smart enough to know that they're really just good at mimicking what other actual smart people taught them I guess.

What sucks is when they finish college and get jobs....then you have to deal with them. Many in the health field or communications...can be a lesson in futility.
