I wouldn't get too used to it. Honestly this is kinda rare. Usually any gun thread has all the anti-gun people coming out of the woodwork and in an hour you have 5 pages of the same posts that were made in the last gun thread.

I'm not anti gun, I have several in my gun locker at the rod and gun club, get a buck and a bull every year, I'm anti stupid.
But then I suppose it's a bigger problem down there, so many people breaking in have guns, most of them stolen from people like the OP.

How would they be stolen from people like OP exactly? OP doesn't have a gun.

Hey, Americans? Can you send me a Dirty Harry gun in the mail? I'll send you shrooms and gin in return. I am not a cop.
You're going to love this one. The .44 Magnum has been outdone:
girlie gun
600 nitro express

rackem said: full size slides 5 or 6 inches on steel are usually good beginners. the added weight keeps the recoil down. most people with say the 1911 is not a good beginner weapon because of the ability to carry locked and loaded..however with a 1911 the heavier trigger pull will keep most people from shooting themselves in the leg if they forget the safety.
i will have to say, for someone that is beginning into the .45 range, i would send them to the berretta storm.. accurate, great trigger out of the box, easy to tear down and clean and you dont have to deal with the double single action like other berrettas that could kind of screw some beginners up.
the xdm is rumored to be the closest thing to a competition hand gun out of the box. it has a very clean trigger break and still has the safety shot feature (think glock)
i could probably go on for days. but here is the gist of it.
i will always carry around a .45 with hallow points as a self defense weapon. i think the velocity of anything less will do more damage to the surrounding areas than to someone trying to harm me. on that note, i also believe a handgun should feel comfortable in your hands. there is a big market out there and i cant stress enough the importance of a full length slide when beginning into handguns. the compacts are nice, but they wont get you to the decent shooting stage quick enough. they take more time and more rounds to really feel proficient with.
Heavier trigger pull compared to what? A 1000 yard precision rifle?
heavier trigger meaning that it is more than 4lbs... in the same scenario that if something like forgetting to put the safe on and you put the gun in your holster after a unwanted event if you take a bad step its not going to blow your fucking leg off.
what people tend to forget, in the self defense world, if you are to have to pull your handgun out and shoot somebody, you will be so jacked up on endorphin and Adrenalin that you wont even know how to respond to the cops..
a light trigger pull for beginners is not ideal.

I rock an HK MK23. Over the thousands of rounds I've put through it it has never jammed or malfunctioned on me. Incredibly light trigger with an effective range of over 100yds. Originally designed for special operations usage as a primary assault weapon.
Best handgun I've ever owned, costly, but worth it.

My point was 1911's have some of the lightest triggers on a pistol out there.
