Building a sturdy workbench

I'm hoping Shroomslip sees this by the morning, as I know he's the community wood specialist, but it anyone has any input I'd highly appreciate it.
I've got loads of 2x4, and plenty of 18mm ply, and it's gonna be built up against a wall. I have some heavy duty brackets to secure it to the wall.
Would you build it with 4 legs or two? Any kinda design ideas? I've already researched a few, but wood aint my speciality, so I thought I'd ask here before I crack on tomorrow...

You don't need to secure it to a wall. Look up pictures of a box frame work bench. I'm positive you'll get hits. With that design it's very sturdy and easy to add large bottom shelving and your own pegboard for holding tools and such. I built one in my shed. It works great.

Box frame 4 legs . Buy yourself a good vice and put that bitch on there. Building this or at least cutting the wood is a sober activity .

4 legs and don't attach it to the wall. What are the dimensions of the top of the table? We also need to know what you are doing with it so we can tell you how sturdy to make it?
What is 18mm in inches?

I found that funnier than I probably should've... LOL
I'm good with the 2 dimensional shit, Shroomslip is more in to the 3D projects than I am... So OP's judgment isnt off base.
Obviously my shit is 3 dimensions, but you know what I mean.

Speaking of which.. I just finished this today..
It's just ran here, so you'll have to use your imagination.. Needs to be sanded smooth and oiled still, but it's a rolling tray that I made for user TheMaster here.
I made him a similar one last year, but he wanted the inside different so he sent me the cutter needed to round the inside of it so it's not a 90 degree turn.
Gonna be pretty fucking slick I think once I get back at it tomorrow.

Lol yeah I was gonna say shLong has said he doesn't really do much furniture type stuff.
My work bench is nothing special. It's just got 4 legs and braces between the legs.

No where near that clean looking anymore though. I put shelves on the braces at some point after that pic. If I were gonna redo it at this point, I'd make the braces a lot larger. Overall though, it's as sturdy as you'd ever need it. It does have the slightest wobble to it. Not enough to ever be a problem for me, the only time you really notice it is when you're pounding away on something with a mallet and that's not exactly the point at which you're most concerned with rock solid precision.
It's all made from pine except for the "cap" I put over it. The cap is birch plywood. The top and 2 inches of the side is the birch. The 4~ inches below that is pine. I didn't want to spend the money to build the entire table top out of hardwood, so I just put a 1/2 inch thick top of birch to help it stand up to the abuse a little better. If it ever gets to the point the table needs to be resurfaced or anything I can just remove it entirely and put a new one down and not have to deal with leveling and all that shit.
There is one tip I'd give that may not just be as common sense as I believe it to be. Use a lot of wood. You want it heavy. You don't want a 40 pound table built from the smallest pieces that would work. Table itself can be rock solid but if it's not enough it's gonna go scooting across the floor when you're trying to work.
Was also gonna originally have vices on it but got busy with other shit and never got around to it. Again nothing fancy. Just some 7/8" threaded rod, some nuts, washers and wood. I drew up the plans the other day so I can finally get off my ass and do it. Tired of clamping shit down constantly.

--------------------
With my face against the floor I can’t see who knocked me out of the way. I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today. Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear. I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear. You can't wake up, this is not a dream. You're part of a machine, you are not a human being With your face all made up, living on a screen. Low on self esteem, so you run on gasoline
