You can take transfers and put some on grain. No reason it has to be one or the other.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I had no idea that I had put that in Advanced Mycology. Sorry, I was on the mobile and it's a bitch on forums.
Yes, I knew that just because it was rhizomorphic that didn't mean it would be a good fruiter. That's why I said I would "start small" (PF tek style) and then to monotub if satisfactory "the big show". Sorry that was vague. I don't like wasting media or substrates because I don't have the time to keep making the stuff. I'm a clinical microbiologist with experience in mycology. I'm not a mycologist but I hang with some pros.
And, I'm a big boy. Most things, regarding responses on online forums, is just "water under the bridge."

If you're a microbiologist, I have no doubt you know your way around a Petri dish.
Shouldn't we be asking your advice on some things?

No need to apologize. You didn't post in advanced mycology. I suggested it, thinking it may possibly get a few more views. Sometimes people take exception to suggestions when they look at a post count, who knows. It's good to let that crap roll off your back.

Not sure what to make of that. Looks like it's trying desperately to get out and get fresh air.
Is that a clone then?
"Not sure what to make of that." Cool, then don't give advice then, thats called a petri dish...you can even fruit in them...heres some that really didn't give a shit about fresh air

Acid-fast you're spot on at thinking 12-3. personally i'd still take a few xfers and then i'd put em to grain and test em out. Looks great to me dude nice stuff
lmao... nigga you funny
@OP, i so recognize the feeling!!! the first time i got a killer rhizo sector like 12-3 of your plate, i was SO STOKED!! i was just sure the next plate would be a highly rhizo isolate, so happy to finally see some rhizo growth. to my dismay, the next plate was ENTIRELY different, with NO rhizo sectors... wtf right? after the tenth time it happened ive adjusted my expectations
thats why on a MS plate, its a good idea to transfer from both sectors, not just the sexy one, because what is tomentose now might be like a rope on future plates
so it really depends on what you are trying to do. if you are trying to get an isolate, and you are 4 transfers in from MS, you are most likely a LOOOOOOOONG way from an isolate... but if you just want some killer flushes an isolate is not required.
more than an isolate, id advise trying to get a well organized culture, fruit it, and play with some clones. your next plate might be well organized, but i wouldnt bet on it. you might want to take 3 transfers from that sector for a couple of plates of 3 (in addition to plates of 1), so you can compare the different sectoring that shows up from 3 transfers that all came from the same sector, its amazing

Lol, yeah that's why you have to check peoples ratings and read them preferably so you can see if they're even cultivation related, post count and if they're related to cultivation, and also evidence that they've actually grown anything before taking anyone's advice IMO, there's a lot of trolls about. Thanks again friends.
I've been trying different combinations of transfers to see, better, what is going on with the morphs. It's beautiful stuff.
