Hey shroomers,
Reptiles seem like a big business, selling year round. People keep all sorts, even crocodiles!
So post your reptiles and tell me the best part of owning one!
-I'll upload a pic soon, not yet, not until the shroomery throws the dice first.

Ive had a few turtles. Thats about it. The red ear i had i think was pretty happy cause of the lush vegetation and fish that were in the tank. I ended up letting him go which i ended up regretting cause he made the tank look pimp

That's my buddy Dude. He's a painted turtle. I inherited him from my cousin. He originally was found in a lake as a baby about the size of a half dollar.
They didn't take very good care of him. He was in a 10 gallon tank with a waterfall filter but no where to get out of the water and bask.
Now he is in a 55 gallon tank with a turtle topper and a canister filter rated for a 175 gallon
Now he is about 5-6" long. He loves attention and splashes in circles when you see him. He'll also blow bubbles out when you are talking to him. He'll eat shrimp and pellets from my hand.
Sometimes I put him in a hamster ball so he can roll around. I'm sure he'd rather just be out and about but I have a cat that is 16 years old and is a bit of a biter. I don't think the cat would eat him but I do think he would bite him playfully and I don't want him to get hurt.

Lovely! Turtles are pretty cool. I've never owned one though, so I don't know how difficult they are/can be. You should upload a picture of your setup!

My brother has an African mud turtle named Koopa. I'll take some pictures of his set-up and post them later. He just recently bought a vinyl background so it looks aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Here are a couple more pictures of her! These ones are better I think.
One in her terrarium, she is on the log.

And another of her on my finger.

Nice! Don't think I could look after a beardie, I know they require a lot in their tanks such as uv lighting etc.

You only feed once a month? As well as your snake poops only once a month? You may want to feed him/her a little more often than that. Every two weeks with a medium to large rat depending on your snakes size. They will fast at times but its good to have that regular schedule so your little critter is always having nutrients.

I feed him a medium every 3-4 weeks. Had him for 2 years so I tried 2 weeks and he is uninterested sometimes.

Some ball's don't like to eat as often, could be a temp thing potentially.
once a month is on the light side, but he looks pretty healthy, so, I dunno
when you can start to see their spine is when you want to make them eat more but he looks chillin.
It's been many years since I've had any, but I used to have a pretty cool collection of boas, tarantulas, and a couple scorps.
I worked for a retic breeder/reptile shop for a while and learned a lot, and got to handle some pretty wild reptiles. I'll see if I can dig up any old pics

Here's a pic of a boa I had. het VPI T+ albino. (they come out as a cool caramel color)
I had a couple cool breeding projects lined up for him and a few others, but it never worked out.

Yeah he is healthy and definitely not bony. During the summer he eats 2 at a time. Tried 2 yesterday but he only ate one. Had to toss the other over the fence into the greenbelt. Owl territory

yeah you can tell he looks good, so I wouldn't worry about it. balls can be picky eaters.
I'd probably opt to feed him once every two weeks, instead of two at a time (to limit the stretching; can damage intestines sometimes)
but sometimes you gotta take the window
bottom line he looks healthy so what you're doing is working
It took me a bit of digging through old ass threads to find that pic, and man what a flashback. super cool to read stuff from right when I registered

Nice boa! Looking very healthy indeed. What did you do with him?
I'm looking to move into larger snakes, such as boas some time in the future.

JY - hognose are cool. I haven't seen that coloration on one I don't think. It's also been a long time since I was around them though.
They have such funny little faces
EW- Long story, there was a fire at my place, all the animals made it out, but I didn't have a place to live, and all the housing I had for them burned and melted so I had to give them to a friend. Planned to get them back one day but we lost touch, and I also can't really keep them anymore. the way it goes.
he got to about 3-3 1/2 feet when I gave him up, another female was about 4+, and my first female I got was nearing 6 feet.
Boas are probably my favorite snake out there.

My daughter first wanted a snake after holding a 4 foot female boa. It was so friendly and she couldn't stop talking about snakes for 3 weeks. Wife said no way but then we broke up and I got her the ball python within a week. LOL
Got the snake, 80 gallon tank, 2 hides, nice water dish, heat pad and lamp for 80$ off craigslist. Buddy moved in with his dad that was deathly afraid of snakes, so it was the get rid of it price.

a classic sequence of events.
glad you were in the right place at the right time. How old is the snake?
I wish I could get a hold of my friend and see how the snakes are doing. My first female was gonna be a big girl man. She was about 3 when I let her go, and on track to be in the 7-8 foot range I think. Another female I had had some wild genetics, and was going to make some incredible snakes down the line. had some cool plans for that one.

yeah he probably won't get any longer, especially for a male. girth is always changing, but getting thicker is good!
honestly I miss my tarantula collection a lot too.
between my roommate and I, we had some cool ones.

Argh tarantulas would be too intimidating for me.
Maybe a red leg at the most but I couldn't imagine ever getting them out.

My old ball was the same. She was also really picky, she would only eat white rats haha anything thast was blotched or dark she wouldnt bother with. She would eat every 2 weeks for the most part sometimes once a month but would take up to 5 months off food. Read about it and is aparently normal. Especially in the winter months. The one I have now is a beast haha he east every two weeks and never rejects which is nice
