What is that black foam spacer wrapped in a silver screen you find in laptops called?

I'm not talking about thermal pads, this is something else.  It's usually in little squares probably about half of the size of a sugar cube.  I have a laptop that's completely taken apart for months and moved haphazardly and those things have all been detached.

It's those two silver things on the copper pipes and very close to the left hand side of the picture.  They are somewhat hourglass shaped and there is black foam in the middle.

Those are foam cushion pads.

I appreciate that you are trying to help, but I'm nearly positive they are not called "foam cushion pads."

As best as I can tell they are called ESD Foam or conductive metalized/mesh fabric over foam.

Your description id more accurate than mine. They may have a conductive covering, maybe they are ESD, the ones I have seen only separate the copper cooling tubes from the plastic case. in any case the cooler assembly is grounded to the mainboard where it is attached by the screws that hold it to the motherboard.

Mycomyst is correct, they are simply foam pads that act as a spacer between the heat pipes and adjacent equipment. They probably have a conductive layer around them to provide a roughly equivalent heat conduction surface (what they lack in thermal conductivity, they make up for in surface area). This allows for a foam spacer that minimally impacts the heat transfer characteristics of the heat pipes.
