Newbie found mushrooms in Western Mass- Can someone identify?
    #23655955 - 09/18/16 02:48 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Hi There,
I am super new to anything mushroom related but took an interest when I went hiking and they were everywhere. Can someone help identify these for me?
If dried pictures help, I am happy to post some of those too.

Habitat:
I was in western Massachusetts for a while and there were mushrooms everywhere I was staying. I found a bunch that were growing on a wood chip pile and would grow and die every 4 hours or so. It was really damp in the area with rain often and no sunlight in that area.

Gills:
These are white and grey with a blueish tinge in the right light. Gills on the top going through the whole head. It comes up in fat heads and then bursts open then dies within like 4 hours.

Stem:
Length: 2-4 inches
Diameter: 1/8- 1/4 of an inch
Color: Grey and white
Texture: Stem in squishy, head is very fragile
Hollow/solid: Stem is hollow but solid

Cap:
Starts out as a fat pin head then opens into an umbrella, the umbrella turns inside our then dies.

Spore print color:
I have these drying already sadly. I might be able to get another one to do a print if needed.

Bruising:
I already have these dried but when I picked them they didn't seem to bruise but snapped at the stem in I wasn't too gentle.

Other information:
The scent of the mushroom was one of mushroom I have eaten before for mind experiences.

Thanks so much for the knowledge. I will not be eating these and will keep on searching.
