Yahoo Mail Phone # Scam Shit

It's been asking for my phone number for like 8 years. And I don't give my phone number to anything that doesn't actually need it.
I have 2 accounts, so it's been working fine if I'm having a moment and can't remember one. That was fine until it made me change the password on both accounts. And now I don't remember either. And I'm locked out of both accounts. And the answers to my security questions don't fit.
Fuck this is annoying.
Pretty sure they did that just to punish me for not giving them my phone number.
Intelligently discuss how password security fucks you by making you have passwords you can't remember and forces you to write them down which isn't very secure.

Steam noticed that I was logging in from a computer I hadn't logged in from. Didn't use the account in about three years. Thing is, I DID remember my username and password, but it wanted extra verification from the email they had on file.
They wouldn't tell me what email address was associated with the account. Since it's been a few years, I completely forgot which email account it's under.
But keeping in mind that I always remember usernames and passwords, and despite knowing the info for that account, it won't let me in it without checking the email, which it won't tell me the address of. Contacting customer support over it was useless as well.
The only service that has locked me out of an account I knew the login information for. Obvious scam to get people who haven't logged in in a while to re purchase games they were logging in to play.

I've had the same issue with Instagram this week. Unfortunately, the email account I used to set up the account no longer exists, so my account is now in limbo.

Ironically wanting to confirm my email address for steam is why I was trying to get into my email
I'm right SOL if steam decides to get testy about account protection too right now.

I'd forgotten the password (well actually the username) for one of my secondary League of Legends accounts and since I had like 4 half my email addresses were fake. It took a very very long time for customer support to let me in. Especially because they were asking questions like "What was the first 5 champions you bought" "Name 5 people on your friends list" "What was your last $ purchase"
And it was a 4 year old account that I hadn't used in like a year. They asked me at least 20 questions and I half answered most of them which I guess was good enough because they let me in.
But for something as potentially sensitive for an email account... I don't think that's gonna fly.
