Prestige Microwave Pressure Cooker
    #23655204 - 09/18/16 10:16 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Finally found a proper microwave pressure cooker made by a proper brand.
Here is the Prestige 2.2L microwave pressure cooker I found.

Cheap fake ones could be used as grow tubs.

I would be kind of weary of that just because you might not be able to tell if the vent gets plugged up in a worst case scenario.

The professional ones are built to prevent that, with added devices and vents.
I found another here, Lakeland 2.2L microwave pressure cooker.

And here is the PDF manual for both brand models.
The cheap ones will break, they are cheap.

Here are two videos, you can see the professional ones are properly built.

Cheap ones are just plain microwave cookers.

What pressure will that sustain? What's the advantage of this over a stovetop PC? When I was in the UK, I bought a cheap one from Argos. It only went to 12psi I think but it worked well for me.

Microwave pressure cookers work at a lower PSI but achieve the same effect.
Here is a snippet of the manual provided by to pro brands:

----

The Microwave Pressure Cooker is a sealed vessel that does not permit air or liquids to escape
during cooking until the designated internal pressure is reached, allowing temperatures to rise above
100°C/212°F. During cooking, the pressurised steam inside keeps the lid tightly in place, preventing
accidental removal.

As the food is cooked at above 100°C/212°F, bacteria and viruses are killed, and heat is very evenly
and quickly distributed meaning no hot or cold spots. Unlike conventional microwave cooking,
standing time and stirring is not required.

----

Reason: Cheaper, easy to clean, microwaves!

I'm sure there are blow off valves but it is also possible for them to be blocked, by bags for instance.  Then you have a bomb.  I'd rather be able to see the PC working on a stove but that's just me.

I was thinking for small hobby sizes or small spawn bags.
All good points though, much smaller size limit.

I have both, although a cheaper version of the pro microwave one.

:awedance:

Just testing an alternative.

Looks like it operates at ~6 psi and is slower than a stovetop pressure cooker.

Better than boiling but not as good as an el cheapo Presto pressure canner, imo.

Also ... very small volume.  2-4L is not much room to work with.

This. I can fit most microwaves into my sterilizer.

I agree at the small size, it seems to be the only real thing against it.
The way microwaves cook makes up for the lower PSI.

Still better than nothing I guess

In the first video above he said about 4psi. So, you would probably have to run one of these for too long to make sense.

It is super small capacity at 2-4L. It might be able to fit 1qt jar. I bet it being like half the size of the average small pressure cooker is the main reason for it cooking like 40% faster. Not the magical combination of a small plastic sealed vessel and a microwave.

The guy in that first video also says you start your countdown immediately. Maybe for food, dunno for sterilizing. I'd wait to begin my countdown when the pressure valve first vents. I guess there would be no air purge with these either, so that would possibly be an issue for sterilizing.

It might work for foods. Probably not worth it for anything else.

It can do chicken from raw in 20 minutes, but you are probably right.
I'll do some testing, probs will stick to my hob one.
