First time hunters in Newcastle - help IDing please
    #23652118 - 09/17/16 04:01 AM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Thanks all for a great site with reams of information (almost too much!)

My friend and I went hunting in the Newcastle upon tyne area (North East of England) three days ago. We went to a field where  cows graze but unfortunately didnt have lots of luck. It was my first time and my friends third time after a very long time (we are both newbies essentially)

We did find a few and ill describe the ones that are most likely to be liberty caps.

We found them growing together in the grassy areas away from trees but not growing on the dung or inside the tufts of the grass. They were in exposed sunny areas and the ground wasn't Very moist. The caps were from 5 to 15mm in diameter with a small nipple on top. Stems are white smooth and thin at between 2-3mm. The cap is pale cream with a nutty brown nipple. The gills were dark black. I didnt see much bruising maybe a little at the base i wasnt sure. Unfortunately as it was getting late we didnt get to set up a spore print before i left my friends house. Anyway the ones we did get we set to dry and they rotted so we'll  have to go again. But your guidance will save us wasting mushrooms/time

Potential liberty caps:

More mature liberty caps?:

For interest, anyone know what they are:

Rotted libery caps:
