The law of attraction is true, but only to a certain extent.
If it were true in every aspect, there wouldnt have been a Big Bang and everybody would be gay.

If law of attraction was real then every tom, dick, and harry would be winning the lottery. I agree if you put your thoughts and efforts into something then most likely it will happen. But people only remember the instances where it did, and rarely the times it didn't.
Books like the secret prey on naive people who believe they can get rich by thinking positively and sitting on their ass.

The best Get Rich Quick scheme involves selling a tantalizing Get Rich Quick scheme. Doesnt have to work, if milions of people give you a dollar it works for you.

Is it just me, or is that statement entirely contradictory?
I see it more like this, personally:
"He who is educated by dread [anxiety] is educated by possibility.. When such a person, therefore, goes out from the school of possibility, and knows more thoroughly than a child knows the alphabet that he demands of life absolutely nothing, and that terror, perdition, annihilation dwell next door to every man, and has learned the profitable lesson that every dread which alarms may the next instant become a fact, he will interpret reality differently.." --Kierkegaard
"We hate gladiators if they are keen to save their life by any means; we favour them if they openly show contempt for it. You must realize that the same thing applies to us: for often the cause of dying is the fear of it. Dame Fortune, who makes sport with us, says 'Why should I preserve you, base and fearful creature? You will only receive more severe wounds and stabs as you don't know how to offer your throat. But you will both live longer and die more easily, since you receive the blade bravely, without withdrawing your neck and putting your hands in the way. He who fears death will never do anything worthy of a living man. But he who knows that this was the condition laid down for him at the moment of his conception, will live on those therms, and at the same time he will guarantee with a similar strength of mind that no events take him by surprise. For by foreseeing anything that can happen as though it will happen he will soften the onslaught of all his troubles, which present no surprises to those who are ready and waiting fo them, but fall heavily on those who are careless in the expectation that all will be well." --Seneca the younger
More on topic of OP though, I do believe like energy attracts like energy. A rudimentary example would be back when I was an aggressive, violent man, I brought that into my world in abundance through others. Now that I am a peaceful, kind, and loving man, I find others who share a similar spirit coming into my life in abundance. I met (interacted with) ONE person in probably the last year that I don't like. I mean that's just fucking incredible to me, from where I've come from.
I think the fact that you can 'attract' material is fucking horseshit, a fucking tale spun to idiots who would, and want to believe it.
But my experience of life has been the more you share love, the more you feel it, even from yourself. If that aint some rudimentary law of attraction at work I dunno what is...
-------------------- Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

people assume that, as secular beings, we can ascend from that status, and wish something from attraction through the electro-magnetic waves...but alas now...you can communicate though, in that sense, like meets like, and dislike meets dislike. this transfer can be felt in a sensational way, by which means you manifest that transfer, is variable. there is psychedelic drugs. sex. meditation practice and martial arts. philosophy. emotional connection. ect.

I ordered a pair of shades a month ago but had to send them back cause they where a size to small. Yesterday out on the bike path I found the exact same pair of shades except they where a larger size and they fit. It feels like there's some kind of cosmic funny business going on. I also have dreams where I see what will happen before it happens on the next day. On a certain level past and future must be predetermined.

I don't consider it contradictory.
This is for two simple reasons.
1. Preperation is a huge help in times of adversity. Adversity anticipated and prepared for is often no adversity at all.
2. Having a positive attitude and expectation of success increases the chance of success.
When you walk into a job interview, you should expect to land the job, because that confidence will be a self-fulfilling prophecy.
At the same time, you should anticipate they will ask you all the hardest questions, notice the gap in your resume and ask about it, call your references etc.
Or to put it another way, when you go into a UFC fight, you should expect and believe you will win, but you should anticipate that your enemy will throw everything at you and will exploit any weakness you leave.
If I walk around believing the world is about to end, I will be anxious and unhappy. Instead I have faith and belief that I will live a long happy life. However, I also prepare as much as I can for the very real possibility of a catastrophe at any time.
Optimism and preparation both are better than either alone.

This struck me as pretty funny among all the philosophical answers. Thanks again for everyone's input.
I suppose positive thinking trumps the so-called Law of Attraction. I suspected as much and obviously money grab books like The Secret are primarily consisted of nonsense.
