I'm thinking of a mutual fund, first time investing

I have $250 in my savings right now that I set aside from working this summer; I'm a full time student and don't have any real payments I have to make atm. I'm not working right now but I would continue setting aside or investing when i work in the future whether it be adding to a mutual fund or learning how to trade stocks. I'm not trying to make a quick flip on money I would just like to let it grow and if I get more interested in stocks maybe learn how to trade.
But anyways what do you think I should do with my 250$ atm? Learn how to trade stocks or invest in a mutual fund? and where should I go to do this/ what investment company? and if anyone could point me to a good place to educate myself on investing Thanks

I think take time on learning how to trade stocks yourself; It's something you have to put good time and knowledge into if you'd like it to go your way. Have you considered setting up your own day trading system?
Edit: One thing I like to do is keep my eye on rising industries, also keeping an eye on the external contributing factors of an industry is important.

$250. keep it for emergency money. there's nothing you could really do besides buying some phyiscal metals, or a few shares of stock, which is almost pointless.

totally agree. $250 is like 1/10th of a minor emergency. That being said, if you want to start getting into the habit of picking up an oz of silver (~$20 currently? kitco has the spot prices) every time you find yourself with excess cash and no bills to pay, you'll develop a pretty solid savings habit and over time (given teh way our governments and central banks act these days) you'll have a nice little windfall eventually when X, Y, or Z crisis comes along and causes PM prices to spike, and/or just a solid savings away from the hands of banks (see also: cyrpus bailin)

I don't even know what a day trading system is I guess I should start trying to learn economics. I took Dave Ramsey's class in high school, but I don't remember much of it.
But is there any other way I could invest my 250 instead of just letting it sit in my savings account? 250 will grow if I let it sit in a mutual fund for long enough will it not?

It may or not grow, it could even go down substantially!
The stock market is currently at all-time highs, evaluations are very high on a historic standard. In my opinion, I see more downside than upside for the stock market, the time to buy was in 2009, not today.
I would use this time to study the markets, you could even make a theoretical portfolio and see how it turns out.

Good idea, pretend you've bought some shares, and see how well you go, here in aus the ASX stocks aren't worth jack shit from what i've studied, but if you're in the USA then you're investment could go a long way.

Maybe I should just go buy a bunch of weed with my 250 and sell it I know I would make quicker flips with that but I've started learning about investing so I'm just gonna keep on watching youtube videos and reading articles online about investing till I feel pretty good about it. Thanks for your feedback guys

Day trading is for investment experts like geokills (who I believe said he keeps his core holdings in inexpensive index funds and real estate. Anyone can day trade in a Bull market, because nearly everything goes up. Day trading through 3 market cycles might be evidence of skill.
