Utilizing wheat bran in cube cult

So I have some spawn to either play with or throw out, seven master jars that sat too long and I won't be expanding, so Im gonna try something that has been in the back of my mind for a while using materials I already have at home. Sterilized supplemented coir grow bags, using wheat bran. I will use a standard 20% supplementation and make the bags 5 lb.'s but will also use a little higher spawn rate than one would use with sawdust and oysters, probably a quart per bag. I got this idea from GGMM, where stamets briefly mentions agiricus blazei having good results on sterilized supplemented sawdust, and thought what about using coir instead of sawdust. I plan on letting them colonize well, cut the bags leaving a wall, case and fruit. I have been currently getting my grow room cleaned up and ready(down for the summer) for my King Oysters this fall and thought maybe I can throw some cubes in there before the kings are ready to go in, I keep the room between 55-60 degrees for the kings so I have never been able to throw cubes in there, but I have a perfect window right now.
Anyways I will be prepping this tonight and taking pictures and document it in case it works out really well, Im not expecting much, this is more out of fun and curiosity.

I was thinking of running cvg supped with bran and alfalfa. Let us know how it goes.

I've been doing MuduFuka's Bottle TEK
Which uses oats (or other grains), a good amount of wheat bran mixed with cvg and also involves some coffee and dog food both optional.
Makes for a highly nutritious sub for extra hungry cultures but doesn't always out preform.
But like I said some cultures really like it.
You can just follow the tek but use bags instead.

Anyone using balsa? It was mentioned on the gourmet board as a possible verm substitute...just curious.
Those Ziploc twist tops are great!

I checked that out, pretty cool tek, I may try some those ingredients another time, my curiosity with this is based on just what wheat bran can do, it makes all the difference in sawdust, and I have lot of it. Also I'm using spawn, the LC/LI wouldn't really work in bags that well, if at all, plus I get to mix the sub with the spawn after I seal the bags.
I just got the substrate mixed, I'm about to fill and weigh the bags and get them loaded into the pc's, I'm going to give them 2 hours in there and inoculate them in the morning.
MyColorado, I see ferather in in the gourmet forum has been talking about the balsa wood. It seems doable, has anyone tried it yet?

Interesting those bottles grow so good in a tub, I guess if my kings are ready early and I have to kick my cubes out I can just put them in a tub, if I have one open, that's actually another reason I decided to do this, tubs are all in use

Yeah, I was thinking of Ferather...he's doing some sweet experimenting with SPF and YN on paper substrates and getting killer results. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23419835/page/1 Anyway, I don't like verm. His WL Tek might be applicable to cubes as verm sub. Just have to try and see.

Like I said, it came from a Ferather, a better grower than I. Anyway, let us know what you come up with!

I don't see why not. I've seen balsa wood work great in slants. Why wouldn't it work well for substrate?
Never tried it myself though. I'd like to see the result of this. Subbing.
