Days to live
    #23648785 - 09/15/16 08:47 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Isn't it crazy how our days to live are numbered ? If you live to 80 years old that's only 29,200 days!? Makes life seem so short.. appreciate it while ya got it!

It's only come to me recently that life is short, I mean as you get older time seems to get faster and faster, so I guess it should be appreciated.

I also agree that as you age your perception of time changes when you're five years old a year is one fifth of your life when your 70 years old a year is 1/70th of your life

Exactly it doesn't become much over time.

well, it depends how you look at it. In eg a prison there's the cliche of marking each day as a line on your cell wall and crossing one line/day out as it passes, cause you 'doin' time' and want the F out. But life needn't me like that, and rather to understand that time is part of a dynamic with eternity. Maybe a clumsy way of wording it, but it's best I can do for now

of course, on second thought, you realize you've assumed you will live out your days...
which is quite an assumption...

can't remember the name for that sort of thing ...
some kind of 'cognitive bias' I suppose ...

That's about 42 million minutes.

Adult females of the mayfly species Dolania americana live for less than five minutes.

For me, it's hard to really "feel" that one day your going to die. You can think about it, and logically say "I probably have around 50 years left, if im lucky". You can be a little depressed and sad about it too. But, i can only imagine that feeling of going to the doctors and having them say "You have 6 months to live". Thats when you can "feel" like you're going to die.

I think if people could have that feeling in the present, it would change the way they live their life.

Most all of us are procrastinators when it comes to dying :satansmoking:

You got all the days in your life.

This is the reason Buddhist monks often meditate in a cemetery.

When we accept & embrace our mortality, we drop the bullshit in our mind.

The Dalai Lama begins every day with a meditation on mortality (death).

It puts everything in perspective!    What exactly IS important?
