Liberty Cap Identification (Iceland)
    #23650701 - 09/16/16 02:44 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Hi. I'm looking for Psilocybe Semilanceata in Iceland. There are so many different kinds out here it's difficult to know which are the right ones. Or perhaps P. Semilanceata has varied appearances.

Here is an album of two different types that were picked a few hours prior. The first one is white with reddish brown gills. Several of these were eaten with no pronounced effects.

The second type is dark brownish grayish with white gills. None of these have been eaten.

These were both found in south Iceland near the Vatnajökull area. The white ones were also found in the east fjords, east of Egilsstaðir.

What exactly am I looking for here? Thanks in advance.

The first ones are likely a Galerina sp., some of which are deadly toxic. Eating unidentified mushrooms is very, very stupid.

When were these consumed? If there were no ill effects after 24 hours, you'll probably be fine.

Mycena sp.

I suggest you do your homework and study all macroscopic features of Psilocybe semilanceata.

Then, when you go out hunting, bring a camera with you and take in situ shots of the mushrooms
and post the pictures here together with a good description and ask for identification before you
consume anything.

Happy hunting, and welcome to the Shroomery.

Thank you, Anglerfish.

Two small ones were eaten about 20 hours ago. ~8 were eaten about 9.5 hours ago and another ~8 about 8 hours ago. There haven't been any ill effects, except perhaps for a hard 30 minute nap about 5 hours ago.

Are they toxic?

I'm paranoid now that I may have eaten something toxic.

How about these?

In the last photo it appears darker than it should.

Habitat: found in a grassy field

Gills: Dark brown

Stem: Brown

Spore print: I haven't done one yet.

Bruising: I'm not sure what this means. It stains a piece of toilet paper a dark color -- probably brownish/blackish, maybe a hint of purple... hard to tell.

Location: South Iceland.

The last ones are Panaeolus acuminatus. Everything Anglerfish suggests is good advice. The Galerina are the most suspect of all these.
