Has anyone here ever graded sports cards (or comic books)? What company did you use, which cards did you have graded and how was your experience with that? Thanks.

When it comes to grading baseball cards (or I guess sports cards in general) there are only one or two companies that are truly trusted. PSA being one of them off the top of my head. (Beckett may be the 2nd)
Serious collectors only really trust established companies, so if you're spending the money to get em graded, don't skimp on it.
I have a decent collection of old baseball cards (a few 1909-1911, a bunch of 50s, 60s, 70s,etc),but have never sent cards away to be graded, but have bought some already graded. Being graded can add quite a bit over a non graded card, even if it's not a stellar grade.
I've been out of the scene for awhile now, so don't remember the specifics, but I do remember that it does matter which company does it.

As for comics, I can't speak for any companies, but I'd imagine that it's similar when it comes to high value items and what companies you use.
A lot of collectors just don't trust certain companies because from what I hear they can be "bought" for a better grade... Whereas PSA for example doesn't have many blemishes on their record like that.

One thing I learned about sports cards is forget any value that that is stated in books or magazines. Cards are worth what someone will pay you for them, and generally dealers will pay you nothing, although some of the old cards schLong has would interest dealers. I got tired of moving 30 boxes all the time and gave everything away, plus 450 vinyl LPs when I headed back to Chicago. I should have kept the one box of good cards. I had a graded Tony GYwnn rookie, but it was off center, and 30 something David Robinson rookies from the inaugural NBA Hoops sets which were much nicer than the fleers. I had a bunch of the baseball/football BO Jacksons where he was bare chested with shoulders pads and a bat over his shoulder. I had a couple Billy Ripken "Fuck Face" bats. Something would have been worth something if I waited long enough. Wish I saved my thousands of 1960's cards and kept them in great condition, and didn't let my mother talk me into throwing them away,

I've been wanting a real, 1st edition fuckface card...
I have a lot of rookie cards. Every Sandberg they made (2 signed in person with unsigned duplicates) , Gwynn, Boggs, Dawson, Mattingly, Santo, pretty much every star of the late 80s early 90s minus Griffey.

I also have a lot of Cubs from throughout the years... Banks, Jenkins, Billy Williams, Santo, etc I have every Sandberg printed prior to like 97 or so.. Now they have all sorts of weird cards.. No way I could've kept up.. Tried for every card, but I'm satisfied with my Sandberg collection..
Got on a kick buying misprint cards there for awhile, so have a bunch of those...
I just can't afford that hobby anymore...
Have almost sold em during tough financial times, but haven't sold any.. So to for that I'm thankful.
Also, I don't have any of the Cracker Jack cards.. Wish I did.. I think they're from 1915-20 or so...
But have tobacco and gum cards (Goudey 1933/34 gum and 1909-12 are the tobacco ones that are around)

No I never been much of a camera guy. Used to buy the disposables for fishing trips. At one point about 10 years ago I had a 100 stolen cameras in my house from this young friend who worked in a warehouse, and stole everything. I wasn't happy about having them in my house, but I got one high quality compact digital and one full sized 35mm style digital. Eventually he turned coke freak and stole every thing I owned including the cameras. I took an absolutely beautiful picture of my girlfriend and bought the special photocartridges and thick shiny paper and printed that picture. we broke up after a couple years but I always remembered her birthday was the autumnal equinox. So on her 40th birthday I sent her a text. We became best friends. She got rheumatoid arthritis and at first the drugs, mainly embrol did her good, She quit drinking for 3 years, then the RA drugs ended up tearing her up, because the only way they can treat the disease is by shutting down your immune system (like all autoimmune diseases). She said fuck it it's my life, I'm going to die my own way. She quit the RA drugs and went back to drinking. We had a lot of good times for 3 years but she died at 45 in April. Tomorrow is the equinox so I'm bringing a framed poster sized version of that picture to the bar for what would have been her 46th birthday.
