Second Flush Woes
    #23650561 - 09/16/16 01:44 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

So far I have had very little success with second flushes, yielding a couple fruits at most. What do y'all do to help the second flush? Do you dunk? Do you cut new holes elsewhere? Tell me your secrets.

Hey TA,
Is this a sawdust sub?  I've got some golds working on a second flush with no dunking.  However, they're much smaller than the initial flush.  I filled a bag of greys after the first flush with water and let it stand for a few hours...it produced a nice second flush, again, smaller than the first, but still nice.  A lot could do with how big that first flush is and how much water it takes with it when deciding whether or not to dunk.  I would guess a higher RH tends to favor better second flushes as well.

I think nutrients play a key factor. Grower supplements very heavy. Also I believe oak/sawdust substrates bring slower flushes. IMHO

Agree on both.

Thanks for the input guys. Yes they are sawdust blocks, and they are unsuplemented. Might try dunking 1 and see what happens.

Temp range 67-71

rh range 80-100 (generally more around 93-100, but with my long work hours sometimes it runs out of water so I have to play catch up when I get home).

I've had success with a damp fabric with plastic on top of that. Don't have to have in chamber . Check daily when they decide to pin it is fast.

I was also thinking about taping the current holes, and cutting some in the back as I always at least slightly damage the sub when I harvest. Is this a good idea or have they already kinda decided where to throw their energy?

And yeah from pinning to harvest on this batch was only 2 days. Crazy fast. You can literally see them growing - it's captivating.

Substrate water content, large source supply (rivers, rain) and remaining nutrient potency.

Wood and straw can only really hold 65-68% water content.

Fruit body's are composed of 90% water content.
You will not gain water from high RH.

----

The first flush will continue at 90% water content, you will not get 100% yield with 65% water.
With no other source of replenishment you will restrict the ability to fruit.

Next in question in the potency of remaining nutrients.
One step at a time, adding more will do little.

More water before more nutrients.
