Post your favorite Trich in your collection! * 3
    #23648561 - 09/15/16 07:31 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

I always find myself thinking how beautiful or unique some of ya'lls plants are so I decided to make this thread. Post your absolutely favorite Trichocereus plant and maybe add why it's your favorite.

I own a SS02, a Eileen, a LEE, a Lumberjackius, and various other named plants but my absolute favorite is this Trichocereus Peruvianus. It was my very first cactus so I think it holds some sentimental value but I think it's absolutely gorgeous. I bought it from a vendor that isn't very well known but as it grows, it continues to impress me.

6 ribbed Peruvianus

It's just under a foot. While I've found that it doesn't grow as fast as my other plants, it has been filling out in girth pretty evenly while it grows in heights as well.

I love it's nice long brown spines.

All in all, I think it's just an amazing Peruvian Torch to be my very first cactus ever owned.

So what is ya'lls favorite Trichocereus in your collection? Share some pictures and tell us why! Don't be scared to show off your prized cactus!

Yes. It gets dim light all throughout day and night. I don't know much about cacti but I was pretty sure after seeing the light green tip that I need to get it outside in partial sun correct? It's been inside for about a week and a half.

This one is my favorite, because of the 3 columns, and as it grew it melted, it started out as this:

They came as top cuttings and were shipped from California. I've only had them for two months. I believe they just started to take root. I didn't grow them from seedlings like you guys so I guess mine is a cheat.

I have lots of bridgessi seeds as well as pachanoi and spachianus. I just butchered those names. I would love to take the time to grow from seeds but I travel and have a lot of researching to do!

You guys have some beautiful specimens!

Ya, it needs to be outside soaking up the sun and enjoying warm "dry" weather if it's not well rooted yet.

To be honest, it amazes me that it is the same plant looking at the before and after.  The base filled out, and then it said fuck it, I am melting.

I will be honest, I have slight OCD, and originally missed how amazing melted, crested, and monstrose cactus are.  Now I want to add some to my collection, the melted ones I have are a fluke, they looked nice and orderly in the beginning haha.  Hey, hey, what the fuck are you doing plant??  Ohhh, ok, I like that.

I love that Bridgesii, Mostly Harmless. The combo of the bluish color and the yellowish/golden brown spines is amazing!

SpanishFly- I have a crest like that, nowhere near as big but I look forward to seeing how my will grow.

It is a recent acquisition - I bought it a week ago from SucculentCorner in the Netherlands.  I was staggered - and very pleased - at the size of what arrived.  Not been watered yet !!

Do any of the pups have a crested head? If not I'll send you a crest section when I get around to it.

The normal section looks nice IMO. I planted a few in he ground for a few months now and its starting to get some girth. All these are lucy clones. My favorite is the normal section. I also have a larger crest in a smartpot I'll upload later. Strange same clone can look different in different conditions.

SS 'Achuma'

If I remember correctly, it was seed brought back from Bolivia. They kept 3 from that batch and you got a cutting from one of those 3 adults. I like the one I got. The original cutting you can see was thick and had almost 3" spines that were real thick.

Each one of the lower pups is about 9.5". This top one is just shy of 12".

That's 31" of growth in one summer from a pot that is smaller than 2 gallon. That's more growth than my PC in a pot 3x the size.

Naming only 1 best would be difficult, so i took 4 trichs in ascending order of relevance

4 Ribbed bridgesii (only the top is 4 ribbed, but its not incrementing it's rib count, i belive it's quite stable )

Montrose pachanoi, wich had an almost regular growing season last year, but this year started to go nuts

A grafted Trichocereus Santaguensis, wich showed a nice crest-like growht , but unfortunately the apical meristems split, and now I have a less intresting double head.

The Graal of my collection, the variegated Monstrose bridgesii, aka colorfull willy.

No I'm not positive it's bridgesii, the older growth only has downward pointing spines so I believed him when he said it
But the spines are pretty radial and there is a long top or central spine, so it's gotta have something else in it
But that's how I bought it so that's how I'll label it for now
The mother plants certainly seemed bridgesii enough

Wow man that variegated monstrose bridgesii is so beautiful
I've seen some tbmv crests (tbmcv?) That are the most vibrant plants ever, beautiful yellow crests

Beautiful plant, 31" of growth is a lot of growth for one summer for sure!!! I can't wait for some of my plants to start pupping.

Still got a solid month to go also. Maybe even 2 if the weather holds. :wooawesome:

My fucking drunk ass roommate made me move them yesterday. They were getting perfect morning into early afternoon sun . . .  but now they're up against the house, and only get about 3 hours of late afternoon sun.

Actually I have never experienced a plant growing outdoors etiolate - even when they got very little or no direct sun.  Seen plenty etiolate growing under poor light conditions indoors though.

Unfortunately i saw etiolation happen when i moved from houses,
always keep my cacti outdoors. But i think they can aclimatize easy and start regular growth after a while, if they have a decent amount of direct sun.

I have never grown indoors:

Though, I suspect it was originally grown in the ground vs the pot it is in now since it was so large when I got it, which may also be a factor here.

That photo makes me sad :frown:
Sorry you're Bridgesii isn't as thick as it used to be man.

I was talking to a friend about this earlier today, I think I'm about to transplant all my fully rooted plants into huge pots so they have plenty of root room.

I am not home now to verify but do believe it is a bridgesii.  I had thought I got him like that since it had been outside all the time in my possession, but saw a pic of it new the other day and realized it etiolated on my watch.

My others do well, which is why I think it was originally in the ground and must have bee thriving, where now its just content.

Yeah, he is the main reason all of mine got upgraded to 3-5 gallon pots.  They are all doing fine, but he shows the difference to great environmental factors, whether it is the amount of sun, root space, or both I cannot say.

Do you think that is etiolating?  Stretching in an effort to find light? Certainly there has been a change in growth habit, but it is interesting that it is a healthy colour, and now a uniform cross section.

I wouldn't call that etoiliated. Change in environment will change the plant. My bridge was cut from what I assume to be a cactus in the ground. The original cutting was much thicker than the pups that grew out of it. And had much longer and thicker spines on the original. Its been in plenty of sun.

It's just under a foot. While I've found that it doesn't grow as fast as my other plants, it has been filling out in girth pretty evenly while it grows in heights as well.

Quick update about my very first Trichocereus, which by sentimental value makes it one of my favorites; Its now around 18in tall and has a healthy looking pup holding strong through this upcoming winter

Can't wait till it warms up a little and I can repot it in a 5 gallon bucket and really watch it take off!

Six inches in 3 months is a pretty decent growth rate, nice and even.

I have some from Rimac, Matucana, started from seed going a nice blue too.

For me its any bridgesii that is healthy and grows fast. Bridgesii is my favorite cactus by far. All bridgesii are special plants IMO.

The_r3dz, the SS02 is coming along nicely; I honestly need to repot about 99% of my plants at this point

Do you have a SS02 in your collection?

No lol you were supposed to give me one
It looks great it's nice and fat!

The plants in my Sig are my favorite, especially the one on the far left, even though it's stretched and ugly it's going to be an amazing plant.

My favorite cacti died from a fungus that ravaged my whole garden. 8 years gone just like that.  Beware of too much rain combined with stink bugs that will bore a hole in them causing them to get an unstoppable fungi that loves Trichs.  I grew it from seed.  Since the plague I cut down ALL my trichs and did the only thing I could do  then disposed of all my soil, soaked all my pots in an extreme concentration of $300+ per gallon industrial fungicide, and finally sprayed all over my yard/growing areas.  Since then I have restarted with cuttings and seeds. So far I have bought 23 cuttings of various pedro's, bridgesii's, peruvian's and started some seeds.
ALWAYS looking for new strains my cacti growing fanatics.

Damn Pioneer, sorry to hear that; sounds like a hug hassle and heavy blow. Glad you got back on that Trich horse though. Looks like you're rebuilding nicely

It was alot of work. Had to cut down hundreds of feet and move wheel barrow after wheel barrow after wheel barrow of dirt.  But it had to be done if I wanted to grow without fear of the brown scabby fungus coming back to kill my new green/blue friends.
The matucana you posted is fantastic as is the one behind it!
Lots of great looking specimens in this thread!

Thanks pioneer, I'm hoping the matucana cutting will bring a lot of magic :chesire:

And the cutting behind it is a LEE cutting from Mallacht's collection, it was alittle pricey but the cutting itself was pretty hardy and big so it all worked out. I'm loving all my different genetics. I'm always on the look out for something new to add to my entheogen garden
