Outdoor Tek Experiment with Pine Mulch

Hello everyone.
I did some searching but had trouble finding a definitive answer. I may just end up testing it out.
I have some store-bought Pine Mulch (shredded), Black Kow cow poo, and a couple pints of spawn. I was hoping to lay down a couple of outdoor beds. The idea is simple:
*dig holes *smash cakes *mix into c poo with composted items (egg shells, banana peels, etc) *cover with 1-inch thick layer of Pine Mulch *water and hope for the best
Weather conditions should support this project. Also, i'm doing this in an effort to salvage some contaminated spawn; waste not, want not.
Species I am working with: P.Cubes, Penis Envy (same thing right), and Panaeolus Cambodginiensis Suphanburi Thailand "Goliath".
So I guess I'll open the floor up for comments and advice. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure that either of those would necessarily benefit from wood chips, they're both dung lovers.

True. The purpose of the mulch is more of a "natural casing". I am under the impression, that moisture retention would be beneficial; hence Pine Mulch. I don't expect any other benefits, except moistur. It's too early, for the fall leaves; my first casing choice. I don't like the idea of a Hay/Straw casing
Basically I am looking to provide solid growth conditions while being discreet.

I see. It sounds like I'll need to find another casing/moisture retentive item. Any suggestions, before I start "searching".

For outdoors? Well if you're stuck on wood, try alder wood chips. I'd grow wood lover mushrooms on it though.
You could always get coir and mix with dung and use it outdoors if you wants cubes, or start a compost heap.

You should be cultivating reptiles and fish, not mushrooms.
