It's funny cause I've come across so many spunions that are degenerates as well, then they get snooty about other drugs.

It seems clear to me from following the stories of so many opiate users that the long term effect is a drastic closing down and closing off of consciousness, not any kind of opening or expansion, except in the sense of opening one to new levels of misery and expanding ones sense of suffering and despair.
The kind of lessons they teach are lessons best left unlearned , or learned in other ways.
Opiate addiction is a holistic and existential tragedy .

Yes I'm technically addicted to opiates as I'm still on methadone. Started methadone after 5 years of oxy/fentanyl use beginning in my mid-teens. Withdrawals were fucking brutal towards the end. I tried cold turkey and was in bed for a week. Had a hard time just walking for a week after that, and by the end of the month I still felt like total complete shit and said 'fuck it' and just grabbed more pills. So I answered 'how hard was it to quit' as 'very hard'. Couldn't have done it without the methadone. Towards the end it seemed like I was sick more often than high.

Honestly the best visuals and life lessons I got were always from heavy opiate abuse. I would definitely hallucinate. It's weird though, and without that horrible self-conscousness that comes with weed or psychedelics.
It's more like dreaming than tripping really, but opiates can be more subtle than you think. Not to talk them up, as being sick absolutely sucks, but it's a complex class of drugs for sure.

No Yes Very Strong Somewhat hard more than 10 years, not all of that was on the needle though, I started with cough syrup, then moved to pills, then heroin, majority of my addiction was on IV dope though.

Not all opiate users are the same like not all drunks are the same. Some drunks are angry and miserable while some are happy and have really nice lives. Some junkies will steal your newspaper and some will bring it to your door.
I've been using opiates recreationly for about 20 years now and have only had noticeable withdrawals once. My life was in a downward spiral at the time and I was doin pods daily for a month or two. The withdrawals weren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Its like having the flu and wanting drugs at the same time. Now that I think about it, the last flu I had was actually worse.
Recently I've just been doing kratom because it is more enjoyable and better for everyday pain. I save the opiates for when I have severe pain.

You got lucky. The withdrawals most certainly are as bad as they're made out to be.

I would bring it to your door, I was usually a nice junkie, and didn't think the junkies that robbed for a fix were cool at all. I would rather be sick than rob someone for a fix.
But most times if I didn't have dope, a friend would bust me a shot to get me well, eventually I got put on Subs, so was not sick often, unless I sold my Subs for dope money then ran out of dope.
Withdrawals though are horrible, cramping legs, diarrhea, gagging, I never really puked that much, but always got the shits, watering eyes and nose got so bad I wish I could cut them off, chills, pains in my injection sites, fatigue, dear lord what was I thinking doing that shit for so many years, oh yeah that's right, the rush felt so good I actually got a hardon a number of times, pins and needles in the face felt good as fuck.

I find it notable that around a year or so ago The Pub looked down upon opiates/opioids, but based on this thread it seems to be well tolerated and accepted. Established.
Reminds me of the old saying "heroin killed the hippies".
I've battled with dope a little, too.

To expand on my addiction I took the classical route of weak -> strong opiates Started with Kratom, tried a few hydrocodone and loved them, tried opana and it blew me and my friends away, then used Percocet pretty heavy in what would become my first real binge. Then returned to opana and eventually found out what it's like to withdraw from oxymorphone (it's the worst, endless cold), then I moved back to oxy (roxys this time) when I was dealing and I was able to afford a few a week if that... when I was supplied I felt like a god though... anything became fun/interesting/doable. Eventually started smoking dope then shot it and have been shooting ever since (now for six months on and off). Did poppy seed tea briefly this summer but then traded it back for a dope habit because the rush isn't there and it's easier to feel sick off PST.
So far my saving grace is that I haven't had enough money to get into a habit that I'd get physically sick from coming off of. On paper I've been "chipping" but in reality I'm using whenever I get cash so I still consider the addiction very strong and bad.
It hasn't ruined my life but it has certainly taken some things from me, though I don't think I'd change anything as I still have fond memories of the my oxycodone days and some of my early dope shooting experiences were simply mind blowing.
The nod world is a strange place but I wouldn't consider that to be "visuals".
Ultimately I know that when I put this addiction behind me I will be a stronger person from having beat it. Most ex addicts I know are very strong people, out of necessity of beating what truly is the ultimate monster. There are brief moments of excellence in heroin addiction that make it seem worth continuing, but they're not easily understood by someone who doesn't use. It's a whole other world, truly. If you haven't shot up you never should.
I am not out of the woods because when I see money I instantly think of it in dope terms... how many bags will this get me? Can I swing a bun? How will I hustle up money for gas? Will I go badger a family member? Can I swing that or has it not been long enough since I last did?
I am absolutely not to be trusted around medicine cabinets

I have known several hippies that got into heroin, and then weren't so hippish anymore, started listening to darker music, and became a bit worn around the edges.
Heroin really takes you on down through there if ya know what I mean.
If you read about how heroin impacted the hippie scene of San Francisco in the 60's, it's really interesting, yet sad stuff.

I've dabbled with just about every type of opiate but never to the point of addiction at all. My favorite is opium/pod tea or tincture which I indulge in a few times a year and a very occasional puff of dope. Seen a lot of people around me become severely addicted to ops in a hurry.

Don't like ANY downer at all for recreational highs. I use them for their intended purpose, or to come down off stims. I actually have a very low tolerance to opiates of any kind it seems. Half a 50 vicodin makes me feel sleepy or sleep, tylonol 3's, xanax and all those ones people use to get high on make me sick/sleep. Valium I could see maybe getting into but they are just for sleeping like I said and I rarely have them on hand. I don't do stims as much these days and when I do I don't do nearly as much as I used to. Maybe 1-3 times a a month.
Reading those wca threads makes me feel for some people in there. It seems incredibly tough to have that addiction. I had a coke addiction but got myself out of it. I know how hard an addiction can be.

Maybe the people who think all you junkies are fucking losers just didn't post in the thread.
How does this happen anyway? I keep hearing this shit about people got hooked after medical use, but every single person here started with recreational use. How does this happen, like how can you be in your 20's and a junkie when everyone has known for 50 years how addictive heroin was? Like if you started in the 1950's and just didn't know that's one thing, but all of you knew before you started how addictive it was. How could you not know? I feel zero sympathy for people who chose to do the most addictive drug. I think you are losers, but worse you make it look like there is a clear progression from weed and psychedelics to opiates. You make those drug war lies true. This place is perfect ammo for the other side and their slippery slope argument. Why not fuck off from the shroomery and stop tainting the good drug scene with your go nowhere suck a dick for a hit culture? I don't know any addicts yet I know 100's of soft drug users, but my experience is apparently rare, when I come here it looks like a huge percent start with weed and become junkies. The people who think this shit is pathetic should be more vocal.

I think your 3rd eye is quite possibly actually just your asshole.. And that asshole of yours currently happens to be spewing nonsensical, paragraph-free chunks of diarrhea all over this fucking thread. I doubt any junkie past or present is seeking sympathy here (or in general) especially from someone so closeminded and ignorant in every sense of the word.
I will not begin to debate you on your horrendously misinformed and downright mean spirited pov. Its not worth it because i can tell that you believe you have everything all figured out and have obviously never made a mistake. Good luck to you in life amigo, you will certainly need it.
