Are you now or have you ever been addicted to opiates?

I've always strictly avoided opiates due to their addiction potential, but I've noticed over the years that a LOT of long term shroomery members are or were addicted to opiates at some time or another. Perhaps even the majority of long term shoomery users might have at one time been addicted to opiates. So I was curious as to what percentage of our users is or was addicted to opiates.
So I made this poll:

Yes I'm currently addicted trying to quit It's somewhat hard I reserve "very hard" for the case where I consider myself unable to fight the addiction using willpower alone. Actually looks like I voted for that; I'm fucked.

Nah, thankfully I never felt the desire to do more heroin after the first time I tried it
I'm addicted to meth though and it fucking sucks in its own right, it's like a ghost that will always haunt me for the rest of eternity

Ive never taken opiates and hopefully will never have to (if i did it would be for genuine pain management after a surgery)
Unless you count kratom, in which case i've done it a handful of times. Never got addicted to it though, and no future plans to do it again because it fucks with my stomache

I spent a long ass time addicted to opiates, mostly heroin but also some pharms & pods. Quitting was very hard for the longest time. Over a period of 10 or 11 years I'd try to quit and maybe make it a few months or even a year, but always ended up back in it. But then some shit happened in my life, I really bottomed out & at around the same time I found out I was going to be a father. At that point, I knew I couldn't do it anymore and quitting that last time wasn't too hard because of the level of fed up/determined I reached. So now I haven't used them in about 2.5 years and have a tough time imaging that I ever will again.

Never tried one, Opiates are rather boring with no mind expanding potential. The junkies I've met will act like your best friend one moment then when you turn your back run off with your stuff. Addicts are almost a plant already they'd probably be better off if someone put them out to pasture

Hippies might seem cool in movies and documentaries on the 60s, but when you meet one you realize they are just smelly hobos with bad taste in music better to just kill them where they dance, they're defenseless after all.

Well, please sign this petition then! https://petitions.whitehouse.gov//petition/please-do-not-make-kratom-schedule-i-substance
Kind of like with the number one question on the 'net being "what about legalization of pot?" or similar. Back in the early Obama years.

I chose no because the poll question said opiates not opioids.
I have been dependent on Kratom to varying degrees for some years but it's not technically an opiate .
At the worst of it I couldn't sleep at all without dosing Kratom right before bed and would get violent twitching and spasms all night as I tossed and turned in bed, and would wake up with crying eyes and dysphoria and have no energy or enthusiasm without dosing .
When I realized how bad it had become (although atill extremely mild compared to more severe withdrawals from other drugs ) I decided to break free of dependence.
I took a full week break from Kratom then resumed dosing on 50 percent of days instead of daily .
Maintaining this schedule I no longer experience more than extremely mild fatigue and apathy on off days.
I am therefore not really addicted anymore , in the sense that I can have good happy productive days without dosing it now.
But I am still a bit reliant on it psychologically, especially for work.
I really feel for people hooked on heroin or oxy or pod or seed tea.
My Kratom WD probably rated a 2 or 3 out of 10 at the absolute worst, and it was hard enough.
I can't even imagine a 7-8 out of 10 withdrawal from long term IV heroin or daily pod tea or whatever.
But more so even when I was addicted Kratom enhanced my life and didn't cause me any major problems or harms.
It's brutal that addicts not only experience hell when in withdrawal but also when they are using .
The health problems, legal problems, and social and emotional costs are just devestating .
It's evil and inexcusable that the DEA will now be subjecting Kratom users to the same draconian legal harms As heroin.
Good news is that Canada has legalized prescription heroin for addicts , which is a proven harm reduction method .
Good luck and best wishes to all those bearing the cross of opiate addiction .
Kratom , ibogaine, pregabalin and loperamide are All worth researching in relation to opiates and withdrawal .

i have never been an opiate addict, though i reached a point in my time with pods where i realized if i didn't stop, i would develop a serious problem. that was also when the price of pods tripled+ in a 6-8 week period, then supplies all but dried up for a while. i was using almost daily for a month or better at the peak. dabbled for 1.5-2 years total.

Says he's never even tried them, then describes them as boring opiates are most definitely not boring. They make anything fun, which is one of reasons they're so addictive. I was a hardcore junkie for a long time. From my late teens through my mid twenties. I've had my shit together for a while now, built a good life for myself & don't plan of going back & fucking it up. Not worth it. But, I wouldn't be the person I am today without going through all that. So..... not a road I recommend going down though, that's for damn sure.

Im addicted to kratom currently but i know i could easily quit whenever. If i can get off etizolam and stay off that im sure i can make it through kratom withdrawals. Lol
I did use oxies a little in highschool but never did get addicted to them. I can see how someone could though.
They made drinking REALLY fun. Not smart but fun. First night using them i drank nearly a whole bottle of lucid liquor and dont remember how much oxy. I loved them because i remember waking up that next morning with no hangover at all, i actually felt great. I went back to those a few more times while drinking.

Am I really the only one who's been hooked over 10 years? Hard to believe. Maybe slightly less but it seemed more accurate than 6-10. It's more like 11 with 18 months + 6 weeks of clean time in there. Been clean 23 days right now except kratom, which is the best I have done since January.
I still seriously consider getting high every day though.

opiates are one form of paradise. or rather, they can transport one's physical/emotional state into a state of bliss/paradise
to say they have no form of "mind expanding potential" is rather ignorant, especially for someone who's never tried 'one'
fyi, any perspective change has the potential to allow one to expand their mind
