what do you guys think? Liberty caps? They were growing in a bog, along with a lot of other various types. These though, stood out to me because of the shape. Gills are connected towards top of the cap. stem has got a small hole going through. The base of the stems , not all, have some slight bruising. Temps here have been around 9 degree at night with 17 or so durrning the day with loads of sun.

I can see why you picked them up, they do look alot like big fat Libs. But don't take my word on that just to be on the safe side wait for someone all more experienced or do a spore print

i read to do a spore print i should just take a cap and place it on a piece of paper under a glass and let her sit for 20 mins? cant i just smash the cap into the paper and see what color comes out?

patience, grasshopper. put a glass over the cap and let it sit for 12-24 hours for a spore print. no smashing.

FIRST OF ALL, EAT DO NOT THESE MUSHROOMS!
Second, DO NOT DISCARD THEM either.
Your mushrooms are an Inocybe sp. This genus should be considered VERY TOXIC(at least to those who are not EXTREMELY practiced as well as knowledgeable about mushrooms & identifying them.

I think they're Cortinarius.
But you still shouldn't eat them.

It is likely that some person/people will want to study YOUR collection (microscopy, etc...). I am hesitant to elaborate on the reasoning for the interest this collection might excite, without knowing at least a bit ab0out you.

I think you are right about them being a Cortinarius species. A spore print is hopefully coming in the near future.

No, these are not Inocybe.
In any case you would have a hard time identifying mushrooms from that genus without a microscope.

Cortinarius spp. are even harder to identify dried (as most mushrooms are) so it won't help much.
Throw them out and get hunting in the right habitat for liberty caps.
