Oh interesting. So the Amish invented it, it existed long before hipsters existed.

Although now that I think about it, this guys was probably the original hipster, he probably rode a unicycle and carried a monocle and a stop watch in his back pocket too

Someone through a bar glass at me one time while I was bartending. That was a pretty intense experience.

I've for sure had some less than spectacular service over the years, but usually doesn't bother me. Slow service will kill me though. Also, fill up my fucking water, or at least ask.

Working in the service industry though is a mostly thankless job. Sure, you have your regulars or locals who are thankful, but for most people your a means to an end, just an inconvenience between them and their food/drink.

Also, bartending, you here some really uninformed/unintelligent people spew fucking nonsense. I have to try my hardest not to let them know most of the time.

This is one thing Asian restaurants do better, when you sit down they also give you a pitcher of water so you can refill your own glasses.

The lobster was even worst, looked real old, all dry and overcooked, no flavor, disgusting to the max.

shortly after eating some of it, i realised that diarrea was coming and coming fast. An hour after this awful mexican resturant, we had back to the hotel, which is like 2 miles away it seems.

On the way home, i had to shit VERY BAD. I thought i was going to shit my pants with liquid fire, it got VERY close during the walk. Luckily i got an ultra-tight butthole to keep it in

OMG you might have eaten a lobster that was dead before it was caught and not even realized it. If your lobster looks Grey or discolored even after cooking, it's a sign of decay.

The gravy was grey not the lobster.

The lobster was burnt thou.

I wouldnt be surprized if they found a dead lobster and served it on a plate for me :nonono:

Not exactly THIS bad but my worst restaurant experience involved a very rude waiter and very slow service.

Lol...I've been to a lot of Asian restaurants where the waiter is rude. Usually if you're younger they'll speak down to you. If my mom or somebody older goes into a restaurant they get totally different service from me or my friends.

Some people will huff and puff at me suggesting this because they insist there so such thing, but this is one of the areas white privilege often is at work. I'm in restaurants every now and then and I always watch closely at how my table is serviced vs tables around me. I notice that white tables (of non hippies :smirk:) generally get better service than mixed tables or tables where nobody is white, and particularly when they are young Arabs. There are degrees of good service and bad service but this also depends on what kind of group you are, both ethnically, agewise and how you dress and conduct.

I usually tip and I tend to dial it up and down based on tghe restaurant experience of myself and tables around me. I fucking hate selective treatment, especially on race. My tips vary from very generous (tips are rare and small in Holland) to overpaying and demanding exact change in the worst case scenario.

What's the tipping custom in Holland? Is it pretty much optional, or is there a standard of 5% or 10% or whatever?

I haven't noticed selective service, but there is a stereotype among waiters that certain races (especially black people, Indians, etc.) tip less or don't tip at all.

Which isn't necessarily true, I've gotten 30% to 50% tips from some of these people, people you'd never expect any kind of money from. I've even gotten those kind of extravagant tips from gangbanger hoodrat types, and I always assumed those kind of people were cheap tippers.

I always try to guess beforehand how much somebody tips to see if there's a pattern, but people surprise me all the time.

In The Netherlands tipping is entirely optional. Waiters get wages that they can live off and generally good benefits so tips are not a necessity like in America.

We'd consider letting a waiter live off tips something Scrooge McDuck would do. Its a real job so it deserves a real wage and employee rights, even in fastfood.

I was kind of across town yesterday and wasn't that familiar with the area. There was a nice brick building with a nice patio and I was starving, so I duck into grab a bite.

Place was empty. Waitress tells me it's a mongolian grill, with the bowls of shit they fill up and you pay by the bowl, or by weight or whatever, but that tomorrow they are closing down, so they are out of some things. Place wasn't terribly clean either. Waitress had neck tattoos and shit. So many red flags. I just drank a beer on the patio and went down the road a bit. Lots of open prostitution, crack heads and shit like that in the area, fun to watch for a beer though.

Some mongoloian grills are OK, but even the good ones suck because they use shitty cuts of meat. I can't imagine the closing out sale is going to be the freshest cuts of anything.

The practice of tipping in America originated during the Great Depression. Unemployment was close to 30%, and restaurants couldn't afford to pay their employees. That's when the tipping system started.
