Changing agar recipes on every transfer?

Is that a good or a bad thing?
Meaning nutrient source(mea, pda, grain soak water, dog food etc....)?
How often do most of you change up your nutrient source?

Every 2 transfers I like to switch it up. But changing everytime won't hurt.

I like PDA and DFA a lot. Usually roll with MEA, GWA (BRF, Millet or wheat are all killer), PDA, DFA which is plenty for my needs.

When I pour plates I like to pour 2 sleeves of different agar recipes now so its handy to switch things up.

How bad is it to never change agar recipes? Also, Pastywhyte, can you tell us your DFA recipe? Does the brand/type of dog food matter?

Usually Ill pour a sleeve or two, so 20-40. They're so easy to pour I dont do much more than that.
I usually stack them in 4's inside of sterile zip lock backs untill I use them if I did a lot of plates. But usually after I pour a sleeve I use most of it right away so I just wrap whats left with para film.
Actually lately Ive been getting the Falcon brand plates that come with a second sterile sleeve folded up that you can store your un poured plates in

Dunno if pasty is around but dog food agar is super simple. 10 grams of ground dog food (I like high end, sweet potato grain free dog food) per 500ml of agar. I use the same dog food that I feed my dog and it works great, but AFAIK the cheap stuff works well too. I use the Nature's Domain salmon formula from Costco.

I also like to add a little sugar with it, karo or SITR or ME. 1% is enough.

I've still never used cane sugar in agar, but I'm gonna give it a try one day. I have a big ass bag of SITR that I use for my coffee.

Thinking back, I didnt really relaize the importance of this until now. Just like humans not wanting to eat the same goup every day. It is a good thing to change up your agar recipes fo sho.
