Too much or not enough humidity? Tiny shrooms
    #23645098 - 09/14/16 04:10 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Started this mini mono about 3 weeks ago. It started pinning about a week ago. Everything looked fine until yesterday. The caps are opening way too soon. I feel like these should be monsters by the size of the pins. They're supposed to be malabar. I used one qt of popcorn, and about 2.5lbs of poo mix. Sub is about 2" thick, which is a little less than I've used in the past. I misted it quite a bit yesterday when I noticed the veils where becoming visible. Any advice on what to do now and going forward?

Take pics that let us see the chamber and the whole sub.

There wasn't very much condensation on the walls before I misted. Just a little on the top, and some on the side. I misted the walls yesterday, and gave one light mist above the sub.

Misting walls is pointless. The surface is a bit dry but not terrible, give it a light mist. Looks okay overall. It's ms right? Just give it time and the fruits will come. Some of those will be ready for picking soon.

everything looks okay? They're only 2" and the caps are open, lol. That's not normal.

Why isn't it normal? You think every mushroom you grow is gonna be 6" tall?

These only got to 2 inches tall. They kicked ass. Totally normal.

Size is often determined by genetics, available water, available nutes. Sometimes an over wet sub or really dry sub can stunt the fruits. But yours look healthy. I would be happy. They look like the veils broke a bit early. They should still mature a bit more tho.

Alright. I guess I'm just used to having larger fruits. These look pathetic to me. I literally just picked them.

You could have left them a bit longer, they weren't even sporulating yet. Sometimes the veils tear early.

Honestly if you want consistent results then get cloning. MS is a dice roll every time. You won't hit 7 forever. Sometimes you roll snake eyes.

MS = multi-spore? Are you just referring to a spore syringe? I really do need to step up my game and start cloning.

I'm referring to multispore or simply not growing from proven cultures. Cloning or isolation provide consistent results. Hence why people bother to find killer genetics that they can grow over and over.

Yeah, multi spore.  The tub that you'll piddle around with here and there, and get a few handfuls of fruits from, and then all of the sudden, it might....and I stress, -might-, flush that giant motherfucker with a halo around it.  Clone THAT in several plates.
