Giant mushroom? in tree

One of my facebook friends posted this asking what it was on facebook:

A while later, she said she found another and said it was just styrofoam:

It doesn't look like styrofoam to me, but I don't have it in my hand. Seems like most people could properly identify styrofoam though. Any thoughts on what this is? I don't have any other info.

Interesting. Could someone have found a puffball and thrown it up into a tree?
It looks like Calvatia gigantea.

That's almost certainly what happened. No way it grew up there like that.
I also agree with Calvatia.

puffballs are evolving, all around the world puffballs found on trees for last 5-10 years. Dont you heard that? There are some controversies about it. But some scientists assert there will be no more puffball especially the giant ones on dirt within 20 years.

You can though, on this one, see that the part that it emanates from is hanging over a gap, suggesting it grew elsewhere.
But no, I neither heard that, nor believe it.

You may be confused by the fact that some puffballs grow from dead wood. Say there was a dead tree. There could very well be dozens if not hundreds if not thousands of puffballs on a tree. Dead tree... Ususally dead as hell tree.
Buuuuuuuut were talking about giant.
