Hello guys, new member from south wales, hope all are well..
Well, it's been 24 years since my last magic mushie experience, and 20 years since my last trip on LSD.. I used to love tripping. But you know, kids, missus and life get in the way once one gets out of the teen years and into the real world, one thing I've learnt over the years is I don't like the real world that much.. lol Kids are grown up now, no missus, just me and my dogs now. Think it's about time to get back in the saddle yuh! I'm being summoned back, something is calling to me, I need to expand ones mind a little more...
Been having a little scout about and being where I am it's pretty easy to find copious amounts of potential areas, found a nice field yesterday with a whack of other species fruiting nicely, hopefully a good sign and throws up a nice haul of the magic stuff over the coming weeks...
May even go back to the old spot I used to use as a teen for a look a some point, going to go over to the beacons for a scout soon too I think...
Anyway, Pleased to make your acquaintance...
Happy hunting... HD

Hi everyone, first post here.
I was wondering if you could help me ID these. Ive separated them in three groups, all are the same in each group.
## FIRST GROUP ### Here is the group I belive to be liberty caps:

## SECOND GROUP ### No idea if I should throw these away or what they are

### Third Group ### No idea if I should throw these away or what they are

From your photos it looks like you've picked a mixture of Panaeolina foenisecii and Panaeolus papilionaceus. They are some of the most common mushrooms and can be found pretty much everywhere. They are technically edible, but pan papilionaceus are actually often considered 'inedible' because of they taste awful and don't offer much in the way of calories. Pan foes on the other hand have been indicted as the possible cause of death in quite a few medical studies on unexplained fatalities.
For these reasons I suggest you just throw away what you have picked. It's probably a good sign that you are finding these species because they are often a sign that there are liberty caps nearby and they often grow in the same habitats. So keep trying dude.
But please, throw these away and try again. It was a very sensible idea for you to ask for an ID here seeing as you have no experience with picking liberty caps, so I really can't fault you for trying because you've gone about doing so in exactly the right way.
You should have a look back through this thread at some of the pictures that myself and other experienced pickers have posted so that you can get a good idea of what you're looking for. As I say you're probably looking in the right places if you're finding Pan foes, but keep posting pictures here for us to identify until you're certain that you know what you're picking.

Hi Rudeboy,
You just mentioned two species but there are three groups in the pictures.
Could you confirm that the first group (first 2 pictures) is not liberty caps? I will throw the rest away but I was actually planning on eating those later on.
EDIT: Looking at past pictures, seems like none of them are libs

Those ones are a Panaeolus (or Panaeolina). I won't encourage a full ID request since I rarely get anywhere with them, but generally do a proper ID request, that info is often necessary. Habitat shots and info are often helpful, like say if they grew in dung.

First find of 2016 for me other than a few singles not worth picking. Was in a good mood until I took a break and the rest where gone by the time I returned. Today is possibly the hottest day of lib season. I find the moist ones far more potent than dry, probably twice as strong, but these are probably useless especially 1 in particular which is shriveled up and baked lol I found them at a couple of my regular patches, green lawns in front of a chapel and a church. Not the best day to be picking but at least the season is definitely going where I am.

Having a mare posting a pic here..
Took the dogs for a walk and spotted a few good looking mushies straight away standing proudly in the sun. I'm not 100% convinced they are libs though.. They have a slight nipple, the gills are a cinnamon colour which is throwing me a little as they were out in the sun most of the day I expected the gills to be 'blacker'
I thought I'd be able to ID pretty confidently but being nigh on a quarter of a century since last picking sesh I just ain't sure here...
Damn, last time I went picking there wasn't really an 'Internet' ... lol

Thats definately not a lib. Im no mushie expert but I know libs. Check the stem of that little fella you have. Same colour stipe as underside. Libs stipe are usually paler than its underside.

I found merely a couple of what looked like Liberty Caps last weekend. Conditions were hilly, sheep in proximity, underside of shroom was purple. They looked like liberty caps but lacked a nipple. Could it still be them?
