Please help i.d (first pick)
    #23644130 - 09/14/16 09:07 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

I'v haven't had shrooms since 2004. I have never picked my own.  Ideally was looking for lib caps but I'm guessing it's too hot. I'm from UK bedfordshire.  What are these please. Thanks. Sorry I don't know of I'm asking in the right way or even if my post is uploaded correctly.  Thanks for any help or advice you can give me.

They're great.

Sorry, I should just say Laccaria, it may well be another species. To answer your question if you click "ID Request" in your new thread a form auto-generates and explains what info is useful for an accurate ID.

They are not magic. You can cook them up if you like. They are an interesting one to experiment with, if you can get oil and flavour under the cap rather than just rubberising the thing, or you could forego that risk and chop them finely into a bechamel or something.

Is it too hot in the UK for caps?. I live in Bedfordshire,Tring . Had a good few days of rain then 30 plus degrees yesterday and today. I've done lots of research on it but always different answers in terms of weather suitability

Are there any poisonous species of Laccaria?

One of the guides I have shows no toxic species.

L. laccata and amethystina are edible, and mushrooms that are very close to L. laccata such as L. proxima, if that saves anyone a microscope. L. laccata var. moelleri is listed in Bon as edible but leathery (sounds like one I've had). I can't imagine that any are toxic since they look so similar and none are listed as such in any field guides.
