If you could bet on sports at Indian casinos would you?
    #23643356 - 09/13/16 11:15 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Sports is the only thing I can win at and why I don't go to Indian casinos.  It is also the most entertaining form of gambling for me.

If the government changed the law and allowed it for those that live near the Rez's that have gambling would you go?

Seattle at 6.5 is a lock.

Bet against the Rams all year.

Yeah, I looked closely at that one.  Worried a bit about Wilson's ankle though.  Seattle in L.A. and Jeff is a defensive minded coach despite having no talent now.

I've got a $150 RR on Jets -1, KC over 43.5, and JAX +3

Also, agree about SEA -6.5. Would take that for $50 but its not a betting option on my site, and im sure wont be until theyre at -7, or -7.5, which is a much harder take. Though theyll probably win by 13-20

The internet is technically not legal, but it has been a long time since the Govt has paid any attention to it. I don't know if it's all overseas (probably) or if any operate here. But if you deal with the ones that have been in business for a long time, they pay when you win.

This is just my theory, but I can't think of any reason 49 other states are going to let  Nevada get away this monopoly on sports betting.

The first casino I ever went to was an Indian Reservation in Wisconsin. It was kind of cool, but everyone seemed to be 85 years old and on oxygen. But I was playing slots and this security lady tapped me on the shoulder and said always play all five coins. She said it doesn't matter if you switch from quarters down to dimes or nickels, always play 5 coins because if you win the big one, that's when it really pays. I thought that was cool like the books I read about Vegas, where they said the good blackjack dealers would always tell you basic strategy, Even if you had the card in front of you, if you got a more complicated hand they just told you the play  to speed the game. Even with basic strategy, the house has a small edge.

Now Illinois is jam packed with casinos, originally supposed to be riverboats, to help more depressed middle sized cities. The economics has been helpful, but now none are actual boats, they just have to be next to a river. Chicago has still never gotten a license, even though it would probably bring in more taxes than all the others in the state combined. IDK for sure, but the media always says it's because one in Chicago would inevitably be mobbed up. Whatever the case, it is surprising because downstate has almost never been successful in ruling over Chicago. I almost think the mob is helping to stop it because there are so many bookies paying them a cut. I live between Chicago and Joliet, and my town doesn't allow it, but most towns have legal  slots now in every bar. I have learned to not loan money to anybody, because they are all turning into addicts.

I used to think I could do sports betting. Had two pretty good years and then a bad one, then  the banking crisis progressed far enough to cut out my income stream and I quit for good. Now I bet a little sports and a little cards with my friends, and never a house edge. And I got old and found that small time betting with you friends still makes life a little interesting.

Like the Jets bet.  I bet parleys but usually on favorites on money lines because I'm a pussy.

I like watching games and betting on them for entertainment.  Scoring or not scoring is boring to me to hope for either.  But when it is your money to each their own.

Why don't they let you talk on a cell in a sportsbook?

Brian... Do you remember what casino that was in Wisconsin you went to?
Ho-Chunk? Rainbow?

And I've been to the riverboat in Elgin before. The Grand Victoria I believe it was called.
I played $5 blackjack and played for 6-7 hours and broke even. Was up like $80 at one point... But that was a lot of hands played "for free" basically.

Vegas chewed me up when I went a few months ago.
We were walking the strip and found this lower end casino that this random street worker (security?) recommended. It was supposed to be a cheaper one.. Which it was. Lower minimum bets, etc...
But what was awesome was they had what was called "free play blackjack" which meant that you got to double down for free (on 10/11 only), split for free, and a few other things that I couldn't believe.

One hand I put my $5 bet down, got dealt two 8s, split those, got a 3 on one, double downed for 21 and won the other hand.. So that $5 returned $30 I think if my math is correct..
Was an awesome little place.

Anyways.. You can't bet sports at Indian casinos? I didn't know that.

I think it might have been the Ho-Chunk, but it could have the rainbow too. I know I have an ashtray somewhere. I'm thinking the ashtray said Rainbow. We were  fishing Petenwell Flowage which is about absolute dead center of the state, if that helps. It was 20-30 miles away.

I've never been to Vegas, but I read that the small sleazy places (many in the old downtown) had better odds on a lot of games, and that's where the locals go. They also said don't wander a block away or you might be in a dangerous area.

I guess the Grand Victoria is in Elgin. I've driven past the nearby one in Aurora many times but never played either. I played at the downtown Joliet one many times, usually poker slots, usually win some money and leave fast. I played the one on the highway just south of Joliet once. Played $20 minimum hold-em because the female bartender I was hanging with had a string of luck there. I should have started slower on the $10 dollar table. I went down over 500 in 2 hours, and only split one pot. I wasn't getting shit and a couple bluffs didn't work.  In the last hour my luck changed, got a couple full boats and won back two thirds of my money. I could afford to fuck around then. I can't now.

There is no legal sports betting outside Vegas. There is plenty online (I don't know if it's all overseas or not). The U.S. govt was gung ho about going after this for a while. They didn't go after you, they went after the banks, which could mean you wouldn't get paid. For many years now they have been leaving it alone.

I went to AC within a year of 9/11. I wanted to go to Vegas but I was still a weed head, And I knew that flying with weed then would not be a good idea. Driving to Vegas would have been rough so I drove to AC. As you said other than the 6-8 good casinos AC is a shithole. In the daytime I would walk down the boardwalk. It was November so the ocean looked like crap. The shops on the boardwalk completely repeat every fifth one, a pizza slice place, a t-shirt shop, a fortune teller, a souvenir shop, can't remember the other one, and then they just repeat forever. I ate dinner at the Hooters at the Tropicana, and every table was filled with guys who thought they were on The Sopranos, and they kept pulling the waitress aside, and saying listen honey do this and this for us, and we'll take care of you. I did learn one thing (this was probably 02). The rooms at the Tropicana cost $40 thru Thursday and than go to $140.

I did get to see the encore of the Temptations for free. I was walking from my room to the casino, and everyone was walking out of the auditorium, so I walked in and saw four or five songs. It was cool, but no "Ball of Confusion" or "Ain't to Proud to Beg".

I wasn't looking for a bookie, we have plenty of those at home. But I was on vacation, by myself, and was looking for a hooker or a strip joint. You would think this would be the easiest thing in the world at what was then the 2nd biggest gambling center in the U.S. I've always heard talk to a cab driver, they know everything. But this place only has 6 or 8 decent blocks so why take a cab. I thought walking around would work, but all I found was what I thought was a strip joint, but turned out to be just a bikini joint (I can't remember the name now, but in retrospect I should have known by the name). So I have a couple drinks, and get talked into a lap dance. It was OK but whatever. She asks if I want another one and I say no. She said why? I said this is only semi interesting. But I ask if she wore earplugs. She said Why? I said I'm semi-deaf from going to hundreds of concerts and this place is louder than a concert. IDK, it probably had no effect but I tried to do my human duty to help a young lady.

I think at that particular point the local politicians and police were cracking down, because I have heard before and after AC was a hooker haven.

On the way home I stopped south of Cleveland to sleep at a motel, and then went to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. That is also a pretty big disappointment.

It was November, but I should have just gone fishing in Eastern Tennessee or Kentucky. Even if I didn't catch the giant smallmouth or walleye, time on the water is never time wasted.
