When you serve you SERVE. I dont expect you to be on your knees grovelling but I expect a polite attentive attitude. Serving isnt just putting the right foods on the table, its providing an experience that reflects upon the entire restaurant.
None of us returned there ever again even though the food was good.
Did you or your friends tip?

Eating at a shitty restaurant near the Vatican where they're literally microwaving leftovers infront of you, then receiving a bill for like $200 because each shitty tiny little item was apparently like $15.
OMG what the fuck, I would be so upset about that.
I once tried a Thai restaurant that was the worst Thai I've EVER had. The curry tasted like dog food. The place was empty and there were only 2 other customers besides us. Another person came in to order take-out. I could hear a microwaving going off in the kitchen every time somebody ordered something. It was sooooo obvious they were just microwaving old food.
When I asked the server if they were microwaving the food, she lied and denied it. Then started talking in Siamese to the manager or owner who was there, presumably about the fact that I knew that their food was microwaved.
it probably was dogfood too

We had food challenges at one of my old jobs
Guy "had to" eat a can of catfood
He apparently enjoyed it enough to start bringing catfood in for lunch Not trying to be racist, but he was Asian, not sure if he thought it was actually made of cats

Believe it or not I actually enjoy eating those Milk bones that are made for dogs. I think they are better than a lot of crackers out there.

I don't have any really bad restaurant experiences other than the food sucking and the waiter being complete shit. One story I do have involved mcdonalds.
I was in a mcdonalds, and a bunch of guys came in all at once, and beat the living fuck out of one of the customers. Like, stomped him after he was on the ground, really, really bad. You could hear how hard they were hitting him. I don't know if the guy lived or not. I got the fuck out of there.

All my worst experiences were when I worked at a restaurant.
The worst one was when I was bartending(though we served great food so it counts), and a couple of rowdy drunk guys who I was serving got kicked out by my manager earlier that night. When I walked the 6 blocks home at 3 am they were still hanging out nearby, saw me, and started to follow me pretty aggressively on foot, I can't really remember(this was about 4 years ago)what they were saying after I heard them yelling after me to wait up, just that they were following me and talking between each other about me pretty loudly. They were catching up pretty fast and I kept telling myself my house was a couple blocks away, and that if I started to run and these guys were not just all talk that they'd catch up sooner than I'd be able to get to my door, so I kept powerwalking and trying not to break into a jog.
Just as they were about to catch up I took a sharp left onto my porch, where luckily on a late wednesday night, several of my phd/grad student/misfit roommates were chilling and drinking together in our very visible living room, and it was okay. I saw them walk past my house like a few steps I imagine, because 5 seconds later I saw them walking right past again and looking at the house. I didn't tell my roommates and it didn't really hit me until the next day, but I remember I broke down and cried a little because I had already been robbed at gunpoint and I sincerely felt like these guys intended worse for me.
second worse was the disgusting neckbeards who tipped me 6.69 while I was working at applebees once...it's a pretty large margin of separation (jk I've had a few worse ones but they're not worth mentioning)

This one is pretty bad:
I had a bag in my pocket of about 5 grams of deschloroketamine. I took it all to work with me like an idiot instead of just taking a doggy bag. I had intended on doing a couple bumps after my shift since I don't drive.
Well I was sitting behind a dunkin donuts and I pulled a debit card out and I did a bump. I was like eh fuck it, and pulled out a second bump which was WAY bigger than I intended. I went to put some back in the bag and it fell onto my work shirt, which was untucked. So I did the second bump......didn't wanna waste any....and ate what was left on my work shirt.
I don't know what I was thinking. Considering eating it is probably stronger than snorting it.
Next thing I know I'm sitting on a stool at the counter of this dunkin doughnuts surrounded by strangers, dunkin doughnuts workers, and paramedics.
Everyone's screaming in my face "CAN YOU HEAR ME!?!??! WHAT IS YOUR NAME?!??! DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE?!?!?!?"
I had no clue.
I saw one of the workers shirts and muttered. "Dunkin doughnuts?"
And the paramedic was like "YES!!! DO YOU KNOW YOUR NAME!!!!" And I said __________. The girl from dunkin doughnuts was like "LOOK HE'S WEARING A NAME TAG HE'S NOT LYING!!! THAT'S HIS NAME!!!!!"
So the paramedic took my coat off so he could run vitals on me, and when he took my coat off the fucking bag of DK fell out on the ground......that's when I realized what the fuck happened and it started coming back to me.
I don't remember going into the dunkin donuts at all, I don't remember anything in between sitting on that rock doing the bumps, and then being screamed at with like 15-20 people gathered around looking terrified.
They said I was overdosing on heroin. They told me I needed to go to the hospital immediately. I kept trying to explain to them what it was, but I could barely talk. They said I either go to the hospital or they call the police. So I went with them to the hospital.
By the time I was there I was able to talk. I explained to them it wasn't heroin and it was a chemical called deschloroketamine. I had to take a urine test and it came back as PCP, I told them it was a false positive. I had to stay there about 2 hours before they came back and said they ran tests on the chemical itself, and it was in fact not pcp or any substance they had encountered.
By this time I am fairly lucid, but in god mode. I took my gown off and kept walking to the nurses station butt naked asking if they were going to call the cops, they'd say no go away, and I'd ask for my DK back, which they'd say no. They started getting pissed by the 4th time.....I didn't remember even doing it the first time......I was in a loop.
After someone came and got me. I remembered everything aside from the in between bumps and paramedics. God only knows where I strolled around too. The paramedics said the workers at DD called 911 because I was just sitting on the stool staring off into space with powder running out of each nostril, so they assumed heroin.
I got lucky as fuck no cops showed up.

Hot out the microwave! That'd be $10.
dont laugh. I have 2 stories about this...
my pops had a friend that took over a restaurant in town, he asked if I would help them get started since I'm a good cook and have experience in restaurants, I said sure, so I work for them for a week, the first day I'm getting familiar with the menu, it's huge and it's the same menu as the failed restaurant that had the place before them, I urge them to reduce the size of the menu, make it simple, easy and fresh. the food is 'country cooking' in a small country town where 2 other places do country cooking and both of them suck as well. anyway, these folks have 32 vegetables and all of them are from cans, large #10 cans, a #10 weighs about 6.5lbs, 32 different cans opened all at once, that's roughly 200lbs of canned vegetables sitting in steam tables waiting to be scooped out and slopped on a plate. nearly everything else is frozen and most of that is deep fried. almost nothing is prepped and cooked fresh.
breakfast is of course an easy meal to do, a little prep and most shit cooks fast other than biscuits but you cook those in large batches of about 30 at a time at a slow place like this one. I come in to start breakfast service and the owner's daughter who is supposed to be running the restaurant has been there for 3 hours, she's made about 200 biscuits, scrambled and fried shitloads of eggs, bacon and sausage, bologna (apparently it's a big seller), and some other meats. 5 people start driftng in, they all sit together, clearly regulars, they only order coffee, Maggie calls me out to meet them, tells them I'm a great chef, one asks to see my fingernails, checks that they're clean, he then orders a couple of eggs over medium, bacon, grits and hashbrowns, I crank it out, the guy is happy, says it's the best food he's had there in as long as he can remember, Maggie isnt happy, I didnt use the bacon she cooked, over cooked since it had been under a heat lamp for 2 hours. when you picked up the bacon it crumbled, the sausages and everything else was dried out and hard as a rock. it wasnt fit to eat.
after a week, a long and arduous week of defying her and cooking the dozen or so customers fresh foods and getting positive feedback from the customers, having cooked several things over the 6 days for her to try and her telling me it's great stuff but not what she would serve, I had to quit. she insisted on keeping 150 items on the menu, precooking everything and serving it like a cafeteria from the kitchen. I told her that when she's ready to actually build a business she should call me but if she insists on doing it the same way the previous owners did she wouldnt see more than the dozen or so customers each day and they would lose everything including the house they put up on the loan. they did
story #2
a place opened in the town I work, they had a retarded name, they also, like nearly everything else int he area, they did country cooking, no one really wants to leave their home for the same shit they cook for themselves, people want a change of pace, that's why chinese and mexican places do a booming business, even fast food and burger joints do well because they offer what isnt done at home as well. so anyway, the place is called Gran Gran's, that should be the first indicator to stay the fuck away
so it's my lunch break, I go in for a meal, thinking it cant be that bad, I look at the menu, it's simple, easy and shouldnt be too fucked up, maybe gran gran knows how to cook. I decide on the country fried steak, ok, a deepfried cubes steak smothered in white, pepper gravy, a side of green beans and some mashed potatoes. now I wanted a biscuit but ended up with some dry ass cornbread I didnt want, I mean it was really, suck the moisture out of your body dry
I mean damn, how can you go wrong with this meal. a southern classic

so I place my order and I whip out my phone so I could check my work emails and I'm just getting logged into it when the waitress brings my food and my drink out at the same time, now to me, that's a huge fucking alarm going off, I think my classic meal may not be what it's cracked up to be, I bet a lot is precooked and slapped on a plate and sent out. I look down at the plate and I can certainly say I've not seen anything like it. the potatoes are clearly from instant, I can mostly live with that, the beans were from a can, ok, I've had worse but the country fried steak was not something I was prepared for.
what I got, for $9 mind you, looked just like this, it looked disgusting, you could see it was a cubed steak, only one patty, but there was no breading, no deep frying, probably only dropped in the stuff it was boiled in and served with, which is the nature of boiling something in a steam table all day but it was completely devoid of all flavor, every single thing was tasteless, I mean the beans had a green bean from a can flavor but had no other seasoning, the potatoes had no flavor, tasted a little like wheat paste, the cornbread was like eating a handful of fresh cornmeal and I have no idea what the meat was boiled in but it was the kind of flavorless that robbed you of your sense of taste because the crumbly meat that just kind of broke down into sediment in your mouth as soon as it contacted saliva seemed to have absolutely no flavor and of course the texture was that which I had just described.
Gran Gran's: We Put The Gray in Gravy
*this photo is actually from their facebook page
I have many nightmare stories as a customer at a restaurant, these arent even the worst, gran gran's is just the most recent and for some reason, people give this place good reviews. granted, it appears their entire customer base is coming from the 3 story nursing home across the street, none seem to be under 70 other than the people that were dragged in to buy the meal for the old folks, I assume they're related somehow but gods damn. that place sucked.
