Caespitosa - what to do?
    #23642690 - 09/13/16 07:08 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

So i bought two really nice caespitosa recently. They've been repotted now but i didnt take new pics yet. Here is the big one in question,

So i realise you cant see in this particular image, and i may upload more tomorrow when ive been home, but underneath near the base each head has more tiny ones growing, theyre all over! Some heads have a few more growing, pups galore!

Ive never removed heads to make new plants yet. So my questions,

Would you leave as is or start removing some?
And
When i remove, do i just twist off, let dry fully, then replant?

Thanks a bunch.

I was gonna leave to keep growing, but theres so many little ones appearing im not sure now

I have a cutting i made last year from a caespitosa, as i can understand i think pups prefer to pup underground or under other pups to avoid sun..
I see pups that grow from a "good" spot having hard time.
I dont know though, maybe my way of thinking is totally wrong..

There are a fair few pupping from under yes. They are all over, it was so squished in that pot though  maybe it can spread out a bit more now. I bought two, here is the other, was cheaper

Its in a better mix now and new pot matching the other

grafting caespitosa pups is always interesting and recommended in my book

as long you take cuttings properly, there are no worries

and you multiply your plant exponentially

I might chop a few heads off for grafting purposes.

but a clean cut heals faster/better than a tear or break
