chill encounter with a bear

so early this morning around 8 am i went to take more pictures of my stash. i walked in the woods, got about halfway to my log, looked up, and was making eye contact with this big ass black bear about 100 - 150 feet from me. i was just in the middle of the woods with this bear, we stared at each other for a bit. i naturally got spooked and just walked away, only to return later to try to get pictures of it. it was gone, nowhere to be found, which i think is pretty cool because the only reason it wouldve taken off was if it just did not want to tangle with me, or may have been afraid of me. i have a real respect for bears and are fascinated by them, there is something to be said about being in the presence of a bear in the wild. the power it has is remarkable, and its rough beauty is incredible. i still havent managed to take a good photo of one, but i will someday. it was a cool experience. also my g. luteus has grown up, have some good pictures and will be able to pick them to dry and post an i.d. request either tonight or tomorrow morning. i used to be really scared of bears but the more i learn about them, there just awesome. happy hunting guys

Cool. When i was youger my mom would take us camping on the back side of yosemite. Tuolumne Meadows. Every night at sunset the bears would show up in numbers. Anything not hung was theres. Vivid memories of bear muzzle in our tent door trying to locate my brothers candy bar he was holding out on that he jack while makeing smores. Good times.

I've lived in the PNW most of my life and have still yet to see a bear, but am equally as fascinated by them. I always find bear shit on my property, and a neighbor filmed one just down the road from me, but nope, still haven't seen one.
I do quite a bit of hiking, spend a lot of time in the wilderness and constantly come upon fresh bear scat; but I think it's so rare to see them because they really do avoid humans at all costs. Pretty much if you see one, they're just as fucking surprised, and as spooked, if not more than you are
