Hello!!!!!!!!
I found these is southeast minnesota right next to where I pitched my tent! In the sun they are very yellow. The Spore print looks just like rust. The taste is super bitter.

They're gyms for sure but the size and lack of bruises makes me think more along the lines of ventricosis? But a ti will be by soon I'm sure. Nice pics though!

I don't think it can be ventricosus as I am not in the Pacific Northwest.
Is there any possibility it is poisonus to SWIM?

After putting in the freezer over night then thawing the caps are a very dark green, almost black. Is this a characteristic of gymnopilus?

it's a characteristic of active, bluing mushrooms and often oxidizes much (most?) of the good stuff in them.
try the refrigerator next time. hopefully you didn't put all of them in there.

Next time just look for greening/bluing in the pins (immature specimens), or areas where bugs have munched on them, instead of ruining your haul in the freezer.
