How to make sections in petris?

I just bought 10 glass petri dishes off of Ebay and I'm stoked for them to arrive. in the meantime, I'm trying to find out how I can section them like the disposable petris i've been buying. I want to make them into 2 or 3 section dishes if possible. what are my options? I plan to sterilize them in the oven, so whatever method I use needs to be able to stand up to very high temperatures.

they are either sectioned or not. unless ur a glass blower or worker, i dunno how u could modify a plain one.
u can put 3 wedges on one plate

the Y plates i used before didn't separate each quadrant all the way. the "Y" wall that separates the sections doesn't go to the lid, so the spread of mold would happen regardless. in regular plate you would just have to be more careful that the sections don't touch if ur doing isolation
the wall will delay them touching, but they will crawl over it and touch eventually
may be they do make Y plates that are legitimately "quarantined" from each other but i never saw them

Honestly you're better off leaving them alone. Glass petris are super fragile IME, and if you wedged something in there to divide it, the stress it puts on the glass might break it. They're seriously super fragile. Sterilizing them in the oven might even break them. I sterilize my glass petris in sealed used spawn bags, and I've even had a couple come out of the PC broken. If you divide them with wood, it might work as long as you keep the oven under 300 degrees, but wood is not ideal since molds like it. Plastic will melt, and metal will likely break the dishes. If I were you I'd steam sterilize them in a ziplock if you don't have a PC. However, if you're gonna be pouring plates I'd imagine you do have a PC for sterilizing your agar, so you should probably use that.

thanks for the feedback, guys. especially you, blindingleaf. i had thought that was the case with mold spreading across sections throughout a plate....i had actually asked a question about that specifically in one of the Q&A threads and was told that the dividers would actually prevent the spread of mold on the rest of the plate. that sounded wrong to me, but i didn't want to argue. thanks for confirming that for me. in that case, i'll simply imagine the dividers and draw on the lines on the lid of the petris. thanks again.

Must be nice being in a position to judge all the answers you get while you're in the process of asking for them...

save your money...make pasty plates. They're awesome and CHEAP!! It would be cheaper to make three of those than to buy a petri dish with 3 dividers. (I'm exaggerating...I think, but still)

i started with pasty plates. i agree they're awesome. i would never have gotten into agar if it wasnt for them. however i find that poured petri dishes suit me a bit better these days.

you mean pre-poured, or are you still making your own agar? My ONLY complaint with a pasty plate is the colored lids and the inability to see through them. You might get lucky and see through the sides, but usually there is condensation fuckin it all up lol.

i mean poured agar teks. and yes, that is the number one reason i moved away from pasty plates - its very hard to get a good look at whats going on on the surface of the agar. petri dishes (or even just half pint wide mouth jars) are 10x easier to see into.
