What is the optimal height to allow for growth from the top of the sub? A whole foot seems a bit excessive... Is it? Because I don't know lol. I was going to shoot for 2-3 inches of substrate and 6-8 inches on top of that for growth, is this not enough?

This will work fine, my substrate is just under 4 inches...leaves me about 6 inches or a little more...you would have to have exceptionally tall genetics to outgrow that but it is possible.

Cool I'm only interested cause I'm considering going to a larger tub soon but I really like the mini monos for running comparisons

So your in like a 27 or 30 qt tub...that's good to know 7 quarts is alot of substrate and that tub is not too much bigger then what I'm using now...is this your first mono? If not, what's your average return on a flush in a tub that size

This my first go at Mono's.....I'm anxious to see what I get off these 2tubs.....my first has been colonizing for about 2 weeks....I think that I didn't put enough spawn in that tub.....

We were talking about TUB size, not SUB size. He said it was a 27 qt. I did the math and it's a 53 qt, but then he just gave better dimensions and it looks to be approximately 40 quarts.
