Yeah, I feel you on that. I quit one job over the radio, and have turned off or packed up radios before.

So is Misophonia like the Opposite of ASMR? Instead of trigger sounds that are Euphoric and Peaceful, you get trigger sounds that are Dysphoric and Agitating?

We had this little fake birdhouse that was supposed to make a dog whistle (high frequency inaudible to humans) whenever the dogs barked to discourage barking.
Well the reality was any loud sudden sound would set the fucking thing off. I had a little shithead jack russell (rip, i loved that dog to death[literally when he died it was because we accidentally let him play in the sprinkler to long on 4th of july at least he died doing what he loved], but fuck he was a little bastard ) and instead of not barking he just barked right at the fucking thing until the battery died.
Anyway, I could hear this thing. Idk if i could hear a legit dog whistle, but this thing would literally scratch the inside of my head every fucking time it went off. Nobody believed me i could hear it was going off either. And i could hear it all the way in my basement with surround sound blasting movies a 80 meters away in the basement with it outside.
I ended up trashing the fucking thing as soon as they turnes around and left the house.

techically I guess lol... our brains are wired differently than the majority, but it's more common then they once thought, people just don't report it much... so it's prolly even MORE common than people realize... it's also a spectrum disorder, so a minor annoyance for some people can be a major thing for others... I seem to be on the latter side... at least with some things... chewing sounds and snoring/heavy breathing at night are my biggest triggers... and it really, really does affect my life... I handle it pretty well for the most part though, but shit, I have my moments for sure...
and again, I don't shift the blame on others making the sounds, it's me... not them who have the problem... so I basically keep it under wraps unless it gets real bad, then I remove myself from the situation as politely and nonshalantly as I can so they aren't blaming themselves or offended... it really is my own problem, not theirs, so I do whatever I can in my power to make it a non-issue.... doesn't always work though :P
no cure as far as I know at this point either which kinda sucks, but whatever.. could be worse I guess

The best treatment is progression therapy, ie slowly listen to these sounds at low volumes then increase volume over time. Might help.

I have a friend with diagnosed autism. They have trouble with sensory over load. She get very stressed with noises, chewing, whistling, tapping, foot squeeking . ....
She makes me smile somtimes when she tells me she had an outburst and told somone to "stop fucking whistling" in the supermarket.

On a more constructive note..
Autistic people find ways to cope. For example good headphones. My friend is looking at some groovy pink ear defenders.

they actually do, or made of fiberous sugar strands.
Spoiler alert: Fiberglass makes excellent sound-proofing material.

But doesn't your heartbeat and the sound of your own breathing drive you nuts if you use earplugs, or are noises made by yourself more tolerable?
