I thought of this idea a couple of weeks ago but haven't implemented it yet. Now I've found at least one person has done it a few years ago. They even came up with a name for it

there is no originality, only continuous collaborative innovation, your experiences in this world are what shape and mold you as a human and tbh, as humans experiences vary but as a whole we're all quite alike or have many others who are quite alike us even if we feel alone and weird and alienated on the inside(and most of us do at least at some point, if not often).
Don't try to be original, try to be innovative, there's a difference by the two imo, if you ponder it.

I come up with great ideas all the time, only to find out it's already been done and it annoys the hell outta me. Especially when it comes to recipes..every fucking time!! It's REALLY hard to be original, the thing now is just to improve on what's already been done I guess

That's how great societal shifts work. Calling an idea yours is shortsighted and limiting it's full potential. There's trains of philosophy that regard ideas as being and behaving like living organisms, spreading, having sex, growing and shifting, constantly adapting and shaped by the world but also shaping the world.
There was an amazing video I saw years back that I loved and that one isn't it, but it's still pretty good.

Excellent post, but then there usually isn't a necessity to be innovative either.
A lot of composers for example, try way too fucking hard, they make bullshit organized sound instead of music Mozart isn't exceptional because of complexity or innovation, his music is straightforward and lyrical The same could easily be said about Bach who was complex, but generations behind the status quo stylistically
Innovation should be born of necessity

Ownership of ideas is a philosophical quandary but I think if we discover them independently that includes some type of ownership, it just may not be unique, and maybe it isn't the idea that is owned. Maybe it is more the process/experience of creation that belongs to us as individuals.
I had the privilege of creating an algorithm many years ago for the National Weather Service that I'm pretty sure has been reinvented (unless they somehow sold it or shared it and I don't know about it). It was for bounding general shapes with polygons that could be concave. The concavity was the trick, convex polygons were already no problem.
I just saw a TV commercial this last week for the Navy that basically performed a computer animation just like what my algorithm did for a flattened world map. It refined a crazy triangulation to a nicely drawn map of the continents. I bet their software does the same thing I wrote many years ago.
Being a mathematical algorithm, I think of it differently than the more general and random things that people create. A lot of great intellectuals have basically said over the years that math may be discovered, not created

a friend of mine came up with an idea about 20-25, it was pretty cool, we looked into developing it and then after a while he decided to give up on the idea, now someone has this idea, they did develop it and they're probably making millions from wealthy people
