Is there a life for us beyond society?
    #23635922 - 09/11/16 02:19 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

If there is, what is it? Where is your ideal life beyond society?

I think mine is somewhere in the jungle, some vast island surrounded by lovely water. No predators and enough fish forever. I'd have a hut of some kind and I'd grow shrooms or pick them if they grew there.

Love to you all

Hold on boy, no time to cry
Untie these strings, I'm climbing down
I won't let them push me away

Sometimes I daydream about buying some land out in the middle of nowhere in Nevada, but it's just not practical. Maybe if I end up with a little extra money one day, I might do a vacation home there.

Cool idea! I couldn't live in the desert, seems to dry.

I didn't like the idea either until I spent time in Nevada. I guess it's an acquired taste. Parts of Nevada are breathtakingly beautiful, and profoundly undeveloped and unpopulated. It's peaceful, very peaceful. I've never heard anywhere as quiet as the middle of nowhere in Nevada.

Don't let others stop you! One day you might have that place there. Who knows?

Also, I hear there is a base called area 51...might be worth checking that out. But make sure to wear anti-Thermal detection equipment and carry some chewing gum

Mountains near the ocean. I love mountains because they deter people but I love looking at the ocean!

Move to Madagascar. No predators. Lots of snakes, but nothing that will kill you.

My idealife would be that of a monk. I think living their way is honorable and strong.
No bad hair, I love rice, wouldnt have to decide what to wear, I love silence, Im generally a disciplined person, always thinking, medatating.

Only bad part is I would have to give up my books, movies, video games, yummy foods.

There was such a place like in life of pie. The dude got stranded in island, had an lifetime supply of fish and fresh water, thought he was in paradise, but turns out the whole island was just one big man eater ecosystem.

I feel like with our current huge population and its steady rise it will be very hard to escape society. Who knows though, maybe with virtual reality in within our lifetimes there could be some sort of true escape. Especially if we ever master time dilation. Imagine being in a simulation of your choice where time is dilated so every hour spent there is a minute outside.

Drugs may be necessary to manipulate time dilation but you never know, we could find a way to accomplish it through better understanding our brains.

Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky

You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by

I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me

I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

Possibly. Virtual reality is terrible though and hasn't really got anywhere. A real escape would be to live on another planet.

You wouldn't be able to go far, since you are out of society and unable to get fuel. Nothing we use will be taken other than our bodies. A van is good, but only as a relic.  :justcantwait:

short answer is no

long one involves finding contentment in being homless

Well I have no intention on leaving society, just creating a buffer so I can have more privacy, work / deal with that bs less, and spend most of my time out in nature.

Living in a van basically allows you to do that, if you're stuck working day jobs, working 1 season out of the year doing something like logging could pay for being a lazy hippie for the rest of the year.

Growing your own drugs and some of your own food would help, there's a lot that can go into something like this. Its most likely what I'll wind up doing with my life, except that I can make enough performing / teaching, not to have to continue day-jobs indefinitely.

We should all take a lesson from Ted Kaczynski and skip this question entirely. The approach of circumventing society is a sham, society will come after you and destroy your peace. Anyone here ever read Island by Huxley? Same concept. People who have given up struggling will pull you down with all their strength if they see you finding a way out. We're all a part of this, it's a modality of summed flaws encompassing humanity.

society hardly exists.

it's a word that used to mean something other than simply a "collection of people". it used to have a positive connotation, it used to mean "a companionship and friendly association with others"...i don't know if i believe that what we have, here, is that. (it implies that people worked for their own common good -- not for their individual needs, independently)

it's full meaning, in it's use these days, is: "the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community." (which is funny...more or less? well, this is more or less just bullshit)

any other use is regarding a few more, or less, noteworthy things: A: it may be used as a synonym for "nation" or "civilization" ie "American Society" -- but it's hardly true that America is really ordered in a particular way across the board, because each state governs it's own laws. so it's certainly a nation of states, but not a nation of one societal make-up; rather instead, it is one of many make-ups. B: you can also use the word "society" to denote to some kind of organization or group of charity, or some other fashion or movement. but that kind of "society" isn't the one being discussed.

really, society in the sense of the modern world is false advertisement.

Humans are social creatures. We need other people . Sometimes it's hard to open up. Lately I've been trying to be more social and positive.

We need other people weather we like it or not.
