What was the substrate those were found in composed of? That's killer beats my record for sure! Nicely done!
Found a lil area that looked good so i pulled in and to my surprise no evidence of other pickers in such an obvious area

Some nice pellies now its getting cold they should boom, and a decent lil patch of cyans. Keep hunting seasons not over yet!

Thanks! I've never seen anything like these. They're monsters! It just looked like newer, reddish wood chips around hillside plantings. The gigantic ones were growing out of chips under an umbrella of long grass around one plant, though three other planting areas also had massive cyans. There were many more planting areas I need to check, so I'll try to get similar habitat shots tomorrow.

Hi everyone.
Brand new here, first year of hunting.
Too late to be finding Cyans in Vancouver area?
It has been unseasonably warm, with good rain and some dry breaks.

So i met with a glass client in port orchard Washington at the most renowned spot I've ever heard from locals for cyans. Not expecting to find anything we walked around talked to some tweakers and found their phone for em. But with all the evidence of hunters in the area it looked like a lost cause. But then oddly enough we walked down a huge wide open path to a giant rotten fairy ring! Tons of black goo and maybe like 50 decent ones. How the heck these got missed i will never understand... since i was a kid i heard go hunt there but never tried cause everyone does. It was a bit dark for pics but i gave most of em to my client. I was stoked though like a mythical elusive patch finally discovered right in the middle of the fucking open...

This one is not the largest found, but it is the largest keeper I have ever found!

I stopped at a very open park that I just had a hunch about...nearly missed the cluster at the base of a large tree.

Those wood chips look pretty new. How long ago was it mulched? I sometimes find big meaty first flush stuff coming out of new chips at the end of season, especially if there was a healthy culture underneath previously.

I also found these at the edge of the tree line and grass at the same park. I am finding that even parks that may have been hit, and seem done, may have more popping up in different areas of the same parks.

It finally happened: only moments after I discovered a little cyan patch, in a habitat restoration area, I hear "what are you looking for? You're not supposed to be down there!" and it's people from the city's volunteer park upkeep program. On the spot I decided the best lie would contain as much truth as possible, so I told them I was fascinated by fungi and looking at all the different types I could see there.
Thankfully I was carrying a handful of trash that I'd found in there, so I tried to segue into how terrible it is that people leave crap in natural areas and that I was tempted to come back with a big trash bag and make a real job of it. Entirely true, but I don't think the one guy was fooled. Even though I then engaged them in a 15 minute conversation about their progress in restoring the area he kept a look on his face that said "I know what you're up to and I don't like it".
No pics, for obvious reasons. I got out with only six mushrooms; I'll have to go back before the cold hits for whatever's left.

Pretty quiet on here for the past couple days. I just found my first real cyan patch of any good size. Way past prime but still producing.
My question is how should I insulate them for the freeze tomorrow night? Is it a lost cause with lows of 25 forecast for Monday night? Habitat is wood-chip border around grass field with no plants growing around them for protection. They do however have lots of brown big leaf maple leaves covering them. I can tell some of the overly mature ones rotted under the leaves so I carefully took some away to allow the caps to breath and not rot underneath. I'm interested to hear people's theory about insulating the mycelium and not just rotting and smothering the fruiting bodies. I'm thinking a light layer that might hold some heat but no thicker than 2 leave thick might be best?

You could always toss a tarp over the patch for the night and remove after the danger is past.
