Time to find some new mulch piles.

:aweohyou:

Finding that huge patch yesterday was great. But I think the amount of spore slurry that came from it is even better.

Great finds everybody.  This season is kicking ass...
:cheersyoufuck:

I went back to "the spot" for some pictures today.  I got off work and headed over there, still in my work clothes.. I was excited, what can I say?

The sheer size of this place is impressive...

Some amazing bouquets

Here are some shots where you can see what size of an area.  This spot just goes and goes....

This spot melted my brain
:mindblown:

Yep, same spot.  I thought would have been raped by now.  I see a lot of evidence of landscapers clearing leaves.

Seems I always hit the jackpot when I don't really care... then when I'm really looking for something I find nothing.  The universe is a joker.

Oh hey, would you be interested in counting or estimating the number appearing in, say, a 10'x10' part that looks representative, then pacing the whole area off to get an estimate of the total number of fruit bodies? As far as I have read this is the current recordholder for a single site, but it looks like you could potentially beat it.

Omfg man :splooge: super mega ultra freeway patch.

That barely even looks like a habitat that I would check, but I guess that's why I don't find mega patches

The article states about 100,000.  I really doubt this area comes close to that.  Kinda hard to estimate because it really is spread all over the place with multiple patches.  But I'll give a rough approximation for you:  A shit ton

In 1962, a six-year-old girl in Oregon experienced a high fever and seizure after eating mushrooms which were later supposedly identified as Psilocybe cyanescens; she died three days after being hospitalized.[4] Similar cases in children (not resulting in death) have been reported in San Francisco.[4] Despite these incidents, the mushroom is not generally regarded as being physically dangerous to adults.[5] Since all the psychoactive compounds in P. cyanescens are water-soluble, the fruiting bodies can be rendered non-psychoactive through parboiling, allowing their culinary use. However, since most people find them overly bitter and they are too small to have great nutritive value, this is not frequently done.

So I'm apparently a pretty unobservant person, because the woodchip patch of azzies I found had another few similar size patches within 5-10 feet of it. One looks almost like a fairy ring. They've got some splitting from drying and then growing cycle. The beach has been picked clean as far as the eye can see, will probably take a couple of weeks to recover. You can tell where people have been picking because the dune grass is all flattened out. I'm not entirely sure why people can't seem to pick without doing this, but I guess the good part about it is that it practically puts a sign up for other hunters letting them know to check that area in the future.
