Hang in there, man! Depression is a very pesky "friend", I wholeheartedly understand. Now get your ass out there and feel the sun on your face and the spores in your hair! You got dis.

Hey thanks all, I really appreciate the kind words. It really did feel nice to get out there again. 'One stop at a local spot real quick' turned into a 7 hour, multi-leveled exploration before I knew it.

I tore the fuck out of a Cyan mycelium mat and fed it with fresh nearby wood chips last year. I'm proud to say that despite park workers raking up all the chips this summer in order to plant grass, the cyans prevailed and continued to grow this season!

Neat little guy in that 4th picture. Nice to see these guys around, it means your patch is in a healthy soil with other organisms, and birds/animals that eat worms will be coming too. People complain when animals scratch it up but I see it as an investment in years to come when the mat gets tired of he same old shit and not shaking things up.

It seems it ended up working out.. they will never get every last wood chip out and now they'll be colonizing other things and absorbing nitrate from bird droppings. These things are relentless.

Hell, azures by and large are 10x smaller than cyans.. you can burn down whole swaths of grass in wildfires and they still end up fruiting again after having been given more food. All the roots of plants and natural wood nutrients below.

I bet you could still feed it with LC this year, or print every specimen and move all spore water back (you'd be doing what the mushrooms would but a boatload better than an individual specimen ever would). Try to take stem butts from another area and give that beast some competition so they colonize/fruit faster and harder. These kinds of mushrooms seem to like to have competition, especially when other species are present.

Have you thought of a few buckets of LC? I bet if you put ovoid mycelium now, you'd have an ovoid season at the end of March.

These guys love grass clippings and dead leaves. I'd get some old leaves and cover it up, especially rhododendron leaves. I say that not because they grow around these in gardens of parks, but they are the best leaf out there as a food source. Which surprises me you'd think it to be oak or maple. They just destroy them.

Do you know where the park would have dumped your chips? Or where they would have moved them?

no idea where they moved the chips to, but I found a seperate patch today that I'm gonna sporulate heavily when I'm out picking the next few weeks.

I always thought Psilocybes grow fast in new areas but slowly die out because other mushrooms grow better long-term.

Do you know of any posts/statistics backing up your assumption? I'm very interested in long-term Cyan development

No, it was just a field observation.

NothingsChanged has been seeing football fields of mushrooms for decades I wonder what his 2 cents are.

I know from studying here that babying patches is relatively harmful for their longevity and production.

I see flail mowers come through and tear the shit out of mushrooms and throw them and their spores into areas. It's where I find most of my mushrooms, and in spots where it looks like the patch got nailed by a very high tide a few years back and is finally coming anew. I see my patches come back stronger in some of the worst flood spots, or enough to move them down new game trails and paths.

Ah, so you mean , the rougher you treat patches, the more aggressive they spread?
