Liloldme. Bad ass
Night score you got a zoom in to really get the scope of it. Funny thing is two days ago I seen some people crawling all over this place like a crackhead. Amateurs.

Hopefully they're still there when they mature.

Things are gettin' good in the mid-valley. Mostly pins but they are coming up everywhere, these recent rains should really help a lot. These pictures were taken in six or so different spots.

What's up everyone, just want to take a poll on the ethics and etiquette of picking. At which stage of growth is the earliest you will pick? I personally like to see a solid waving the cap (Cyans) before I consider picking it. Although lately all of the spots I've been finding have been decimated overnight, I just checked on a patch I walk by every day and between last night and today someone picked every pin except the ones they trampled.
Is it OK to pick a mushroom as long as the veil is broken? I ask for the health of the patch but some of the spots have no chance with all the assholes running around.
Furthermore, is it common for people to sell wild active mushrooms? I see photos of pounds and pounds of mushrooms I just think to myself, do you really need that many? (Not talking about anyone in particular BTW). Personally I believe it is ethical to sell anything you cultivate at home or in a hidden location that you personally spawned personally I believe it is ethical to sell anything you cultivate at home or in a hidden location that you . A lot of time and energy goes into that so it seems fair, but I would never feel right about selling something I found on the ground as a gift from nature.
I have a feeling that greed is what causes people to pick immature fruits because they don't want to lose a potential dollar. I would just like to know how to handle someone if I catch them in the act of disrespecting a patch.
here's a pic taken last night, I counted over 60 specimens and zero that I considered ready to harvest. This morning there was nothing left except a couple squashed clusters. I'm sure this is typical, just a little frustrating.

So landscaped urban and suburban environments are the wild now? Even if someone were to take tons of azzies, they are doing so from stands of invasive European dune grass. What people do with the mushrooms they pick is their own business, as in none of yours.
Have you started any patches recently? Many of the patches that you think sprang up by chance of nature have been started intentionally by other hunters with the knowledge that public property is fair game. Some people contribute many dozens or hundreds of hours of their own time and research to spread these urban delights that you stumble upon.
Ultimately, none of us own these mushrooms and they are not ours to set regulations for. If you want a patch that is all your own then start one in your yard, or make some planter pots.

Kudos to the folks making those plots available. A pox upon the greedy that ruin it for the rest.

Well said Piggy.
I'm proud to say I spread a lot of stem butts, myc'ed chips, myc'ed cardboard, and spore slurry since last fall. I'm happy to say at least one of the places has a new patch. And an existing commonly known patch is stronger. I haven't got around to checking the rest as I am out of town at the moment. I dislike patch rapists, but as long as I keep spreading the love I can (hopefully) stay one step ahead of them.

I don't actively seek out actives (pun not intended). I had the opportunity some 20+ years ago and so can at least say I've done it. In the more permissive climate I live in I'm content to grow my personal needs and leave the wild ones to those without recourse or to just let them go about their business, creating more mushrooms for everybody.
That said, I'd probably sneak enough for a single serving if I came across a healthy patch. No babies though, just adults that have already contributed to their future.

I appreciate the insight.. I must've been lucky last year, as I found several prolific public spots that I was able to watch emerge, mature and rot with no disturbance at all. I was able to pick a few at a time and leave behind tons. Someone found at least one of these spots so I guess it didn't matter much.
I did take a good amount of mature mushrooms two new locations but I think I will be a little more deliberate this year, I've spore printed every cap I've picked so far and planning to spray down some new spots.
