In all my years I've never really found cyans. This year I'm gonna change that up. Gonna be doing some foraging this week after this storm system has hit us something has to give.

Saw some pins growing from a small stump today. Kinda cool. Still have not seen much though. Nothing happening at my regular spots.

That is pretty knee-toe. Were they just colonizing the stump? A few weeks ago a spot i stopped by they were growing out of a fallen tree in the middle of the chip pile. Just so happened to leave the camera in the car and this spot is a ways from home. I might get back over there this week and snap a pic.

None of my usual spots have been popping up yet but I'm finding lots and lots of pins all over town. Only seen about 6 fruits that were ready for harvest at one patch so far. I bumped into a picker from Bellingham at a particular college campus in my area, I accidentally spooked the shit out of you! If you're on here, sorry about that lol.. Thanks for sharing the spots you found in my neighborhood with me, and many many thanks for leaving behind the little guys for the locals. it's always great to find a fellow forager who has respect.
According to him Bellingham is in full affect due to the recent temperature drop, so all you northwest Washington and British Columbia guys should get out there.

If you zoom in you can see a different mushroom next to the cyans. Is this a galerina sp.? I see these things all over. The one with the heavily striated margin.

Looks like it's colonizing the stump. Definitely post your cyans on a log if you get a pic.

It's been a mushroom-hunty day, eventually with modest success. Not quite my first find this year, but the first that's been good enough to make me happy.
This morning before dawn I was at a good park - the same park at which, one day last year, I ran into N05482 and BetaKnight - and an hour and ten minutes of prowling the habitat restoration areas found me absolutely zilch. Including the one spot that was very good to me last year.
Tonight instead I checked out Lost Cause Park, which is what I call a certain place that has heavy colonization of cyans in at least half a dozen places, but is so heavily and ruthlessly hunted that virtually nothing gets past the early pin stage. And pins I found, by the dozens and dozens. Didn't take any of those. I was seriously about to give up. I gave the place that name for a reason, after all.
And then, under leaf litter that was under a bramble that was hidden under the backside of a fern:

Woohoo!

I keep seeing pics of em drying like this. They will dry just fine on the edge or just break the stipe and lay em down. Let them spores make nice prints all over your pants, shoes, paper and anything else you can put under em. With that rack you could put your whole weeks laundy under it!
